    I prefer semi gloss paint because it's easy to wipe down with a magic eraser when the walls get dirty, which they will with little kids and pets. Also don't forget to clean your brushes and rollers really well! If they get filled with old paint you won't be able to use them anymore.

    @MaryM: My mind is blown! I had no idea those things existed. Now I hunt it down (we live abroad).

    @Anagram: Thank you for starting this thread! I always thought something was wrong with us for thinking that painting was tougher than it looks. It's so nice to know we're not alone.

    @LBee: @Mrs. Microscope: I love your tips! I read them aloud to DH. LBee's #1 had me rolling

    oh man, yesterday I got some magic erasers and went to town on my baseboards. They were way more grimy than I realized, so now they look pretty good.....but it's now more obvious to me that we need to patch and paint! After really scrubbing them, I have found several places that need caulking/patching.

    @Anagram: if you get really nuts, my DH just ordered like 25 off brand magic erasers for $2.50 on Amazon. 😜

    @Foodnerd81: I am on a cleaning streak, so I just might. My younger sister is coming into town on Thursday for a week, and she is super neat and organized, so I told her I would pay her cash to reorganize some of our problem areas in our house, because I never get to it! She was excited to do it, so I hope it actually happens. I want her to reorganize my pantry, the bookshelves in our living room, and my kids' closet shelves.

    @GOTKIMCHI : Yes I do have recommendations....

    Semi-gloss - trim and doors
    Satin - walls (still cleans well, but does not show as many imperfections as using semi-gloss)
    flat - ceilings
