We recently got two requests for changes in how we handle shutdown accounts:
1) We got a request that shutdown profiles give some indication that they've been shut down, and
2) We also got a request that shutdown profiles continue to respect the privacy settings of the account. So for example: if someone set their list of posts to be private, then ideally the list of posts would continue to be private after a shutdown.
Those requests both sounded reasonable, so we instituted two changes.
1) Shutdown accounts now show that they've been shut down. Here's an example profile that's been shut down.

2) We're now *increasing* the privacy of accounts after they've been shut down. Your list of posts and walls will both be entirely inaccessible after a shutdown. For example:

* http://boards.hellobee.com/profile/12345678901234567890123456789-1/wall
To be as fair as possible... this increased privacy for shutdown accounts will be available to all of our users, both gold and classic.
