I had my first progesterone shot today, about 2 hours ago, and it still burrrrrns! Tried to call my ob to see if this is normal but they are closed for lunch. Should i be concerned? Anything i can do to make this suck less? I feel a lttle lightheaded too but that was normal for me earlier in my pregnancy so i dont know if that is related or not...

After my progesterone shots (beginning of pregnancy, not end) I'd sort of massage the area so the oil spreads out. That helped with the burning, and kept a lump from forming. Sometimes, though, we'd just get a bad spot and it would hurt for a couple days.

Oil is terrible for hurting in IMs. Just as long as it isn't getting red, hot or swollen you should be fine.

Ice before, then massage and a heating pad set on low for a while right afterwards. I still felt like I had golfballs on my bum, though. PIO shots suck! Hopefully they'll be worth it for you!

PIO shots are not fun--sorry you're hurting! One thing I did that helped a bit with the oil was putting the bottle on a heating pad set on low while I got the syringe ready, which thinned out the oil a bit. I injected myself, since it hurt more when my husband did it, and I made sure to make the skin extremely taut at the injection site and always make sure I was injecting perpendicularly to my body. I also used a heating pad and massage afterwards. Hang in there!

@Mrs. Lovebug: I am actually going in to the office to have them done...I figured the nurses have more experience and would do a better job, right?? but then I can't do any of those things haha. It didn't hurt at all until she pulled the needle out and I stood up. Massage seems to make it burn worse, but maybe it will be better in the long run.

Oh, wow! Then, no, you can't do the heating beforehand. I wonder if it would be worth it to get those instant hand warmer pod thingies (that is the official name for them, right?)
so you can keep it on the site for the ride home? Might the burning be related to the kind of oil used? I know that the oil can be different--mine was progesterone in ethyl oleate--if it burns again, perhaps you can get a prescription for another kind of oil if you are going to end up using multiple bottles.
