I never really considered this to be something that is more popular in some areas, but I'm wondering if maybe there's some truth to that. With my oldest turning 5 just 3 days before the cutoff (September 1st here) I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Everyone I've talked to around here didn't even consider holding their kid back, in fact, a couple are trying to sign waivers to get their kids in despite still being 4 on September 1st. I don't know if it's just not something many people "know" about around here, or just have completely different views on the topic.
So I'm curious, what's redshirting like in the area where you live?
but at least it's only kindergarten and not a later grade... I had a friend growing up who wasn't held back and had struggled all through school... finally didn't make it through an upper grade and had to deal with being held back when he was nearly a teenager and face that embarrassment.
