I did a nanny share with our LO from 9 weeks when I went back to work until 9 months. I would have done it until 18 +months if we had not relocated. I loved it, I felt it gave us a taste of both worlds in that our LO got lots of personal attention but also got to be with another baby. I especially liked it in the first year to avoid daycare sickness. It was relatively common in NYC but I
get the impression that it is a rarity outside that area.
Are nanny shares common in your area or is it a type of care you would be interested in?

yep - in DC. I think they are really common in cities because (1) daycares are SO hard to get into, and (2) nannies are expensive.
I love our nanny share arrangement, but unfortunately we have NOT avoided the illness issue. Our nanny has a 2 yo that goes to daycare, so we get all of the daycare germs anyway. The flip side is that we don't have to keep DD home nearly as often as we would have to in daycare, because both babies tend to get sick at the same time (from the nanny), so we just keep them together.

Yep. We are just north of Boston and it's common here. I know several friends who are in a nanny share and we would definitely consider it if we found the right match.

Yes, but I live in Brooklyn where it's very common. Our current nanny was part of a nanny share before working with us. We contemplated it for awhile, but we decided to just go it alone.

I don't think it's common around here. Nannies in general aren't common. Kids will mostly go to daycare around here. I'd put my kid in daycare if I had to work. Most of them around here are pretty educational.

It's common here in Toronto.
We still get the daycare sicknesses because the two girls go to a few playgroups and activities during the week.
I'm really happy that they have each other during the day and that if one or either (usually both!) are sick they can have a quiet day and I don't have to miss work.
It's also great because they are able to do a lot of different activities. Last week they went to the aquarium and loved it! -
One of the things I like about it is how much being with just one other child seems to spur the other on. We've had big improvements in climbing/reaching skills just from playing together and they seem to eat better when they're together too. We're lucky here in Toronto though because there are lots of free, great programmes and groups, so even if you stay home with LO or have a nanny to just one child it's very easy for them to socialise with other children.

It's fairly common where I work (city) but not where I live (more suburban). In theory it sounds good but I haven't been able to get the logistics to work out so I voted "yes, but it doesn't appeal to me." I just don't need the hassle of coordinating everything and most nannies/families are looking to share days rather than full time.

I live about 40 minutes outside Boston and most people around here seem to use daycare centers. I like the idea in theory, especially if the nanny comes to our house instead of having to get baby ready to go somewhere. But when it came down it, it was just easier to find a center we liked.

Quite common. I want DD close to my office at first so I can nurse her at lunchtime, but we're definitely open to finding a nanny share once she's older if we decide not to stick with this daycare. They're also super common for school-age kids here, to fill the gap between dismissal and when parents get home from work.

Very common here as a share is cheaper than daycare. But not close enough to my immediate home that I can find one. It's more common closer you get to downtown (I'm a bit further out in the 'burbs).

It's definitely common (I'm also in NYC) but I prefer a center for a lot of reasons. We will see though if we get into the centers we applied to! Dh and I both work from home so having a nanny work at our apt isn't an option.
