@Mrs.Pinecone316: Congratulations on a smooth retrieval! I've never heard the day of how many were mature - I've only ever found that out the next day with the fertilization report. Are you doing ICSI? I hope you can get some rest!

@Mrs.Pinecone316: Congrats on a good retrieval day! Looking forward to hearing your update soon!

I got my 2nd beta today...4949 (at 5w3days). I don't know much about that number (DH took the call and it wasn't our usual nurse) but they say it's good. Looking forward to my first U/S next week!

We did not receive good news from our 1st beta. It was 17 so it is likely a chemical pregnancy. We will repeat on Saturday, but I don't think this is our time.

    @FliegepilzHut: That's great!!!!

@GreenThumb: I'm so sorry. Is there a chance it can go up? What cycle day was your beta? I forget. I'm sorry it is low, but hoping it will go up for you!!!!!! ((hugs))

Still feeling exhausted from the stims. Naps are my new best friend. Took one yesterday afternoon and will again after I finish my lunch. Other than that, feeling fine. I go for my first ultrasound and blood draw tomorrow morning. Very nervous. Our first IVF cycle was cancelled on Day 4 due to high progesterone, so I worry about all of these checks along the way. Hopefully everything is fine and we can keep going!!

My update is that we still have 11 embroys growing in the lab , seems like the 4 they were watching didn't progress. We are now officially confirmed for a Sunday transfer! One or two....that is the next question

  14. swedishfish

@mrswin: I say two but that's because I ended up with one baby each time when putting in two. Of course I would've loved twins.

@GreenThumb: so sorry I hope that your # doubles (or more!) with the next beta.

@mrswin: remind me again what your diagnosis is? I think if it's MF then you're odds of success are better, so you could more safely go with one. I did 1 the first time, and 2 the second time. My RE actually advised against 2 the first time because he said the added risk of complications from a twin pregnancy outweighed the extra ~10% chance of success the second embryo gave me. After that cycle failed, he was more open to letting us transfer two the next time. It's such a hard decision, but at least whatever you decide, it looks like you'll hopefully have some frozen embryos afterwards!

@FliegepilzHut: I missed you second beta number, that seems to be high. How long until your ultrasound?

@swedishfish: We are both leaning more towards two but I want to really consider it when we are there. Also I worry we could put 2 and get 3 or more since we did ICSI on all.

@Shutterbug: We are classified as "unexplained" but I have endo and there is MFI (mostly count). We really need to talk about it some more..

  18. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@GreenThumb: I'm so sorry. Will you have a repeat in a couple of days? Thinking of you...

@Jenn23: Yay for naps! Why is this entire process (IF/treatment/early pregnancy) so anxiety-producing? FX for good results from your monitoring appt tomorrow!

@mrswin: That sounds great! Thinking lots of good thoughts for you and your LOs! Are you leaning more toward 1 or 2?

@Shutterbug: Just curious...do you know of a citation for those numbers? I'm sure your RE had an excellent knowledge of the study...but intuitively, it seems like that would attribute a huge measure of IVF success rates to maternal factors. The closest thing I have found online was a study that reported equal success rates with 2 embryos vs 1 "genetically normal" embryo (that had undergone PGD). I wonder what I'm missing...

  19. swedishfish

    GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts

@mrswin: we did ICSI on all of our embryos as well.

  20. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@mrswin: You answered my question already. It's definitely a tough decision, lots of angles. It looks like I'm right in the middle of the pack, numbers-wise...and it's impossible to "tell" from betas. My U/S is next Wednesday!

  21. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@FliegepilzHut: do you mean for the MFI thing I mentioned, or for the success rates of 1 vs 2 embryos?

The MFI comment was more anecdotal than anything (and logically it makes sense, that if all else is "normal" but there is diagnosed MFI, that IVF with ICSI would overcome that diagnosis).

As for the 1 vs 2 embryos, I was just quoting my RE for the (roughly) 50% vs 60% odds. I did see a study a while ago that showed equal success rates for two fresh embryos in one cycle vs one fresh and one frozen in two cycles (so, pregnancy rates for the eset group were measured after 1 fresh and 1 frozen, if necessary), but with better outcomes in the latter group. Let me see if I can find it. My new RE is a huge proponent of eSETs, but I haven't done a cycle with him yet.

ETA: here's an article about the study, which is a bit old, from 2009: http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1888299,00.html

"Researchers found that the total pregnancy rate per egg retrieval was higher when embryos were implanted individually. For each "ovum pickup," the overall pregnancy rate was 38% among women who had elective single-embryo transfers, and 33% among those who had more than one embryo implanted."

  22. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@Shutterbug: I was asking about the 50 vs 60% stats. I had read the study which compared eSET + FET to transfer of 2 embryos during a fresh cycle...but frankly I feel like that's a bit disingenuous (not really equivalent if you think about the time, emotional burden, or cost of 2 transfers....). But maybe that's just me...?

  23. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@FliegepilzHut: Yeah, I do agree with you about the two situations not being the same. There was something in the article as well about decreased medical costs of ~$27k with SETs due to the lower number of multiples, but that cost isn't passed on to the patient like IF treatment costs are (for most). Like I said, I've done both, 1 & 2 embryos, so I don't think either one is better than the other - it's a choice for each person to make with their doctor & partner, weighing the odds/risks for their particular situation. I do think in the future, as technology gets better, all IVF transfers will be single embryo, eventually.

  24. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@Shutterbug: I think you're right-- the technology should improve (probably over the next 10-15 years...by which point it will be a moot point for me. ). And it's definitely a very personal/individual decision!

  25. GreenThumb

    pear / 1986 posts

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone. We'll see what the next beta says, maybe we had an early implanter that didn't make it and a late implanter that is just getting going. If it wasn't meant to be, it wasn't meant to be.

I haven't read too many of the recent posts on 2 vs 1, but in my case we did 1 (fresh/failed), 2 (FET/singleton birth), and now 2 (FET/possible failure). I am 36 but had no issue with egg quality or reserve just 1 blocked tube and MFI. And I thank the heavens everyday that we did 2 for that successful cycle or I might now have my precious daughter. Such a tough choice that I wish none of us had to make.

@FliegepilzHut: Congrats on the great beta. Can't wait to see your little peanut next week! You gotta post the US pic!!

@GreenThumb: I am so sorry That is so tough.. Praying it was a late implanter too and your next beta is more reassuring. Anything is possible, don't give up hope just yet. XO

@Jenn23: Hoping your labs and ultrasound look beautiful tomorrow and you can keep moving along this time around!

@mrswin: YAY! Great #. Hope the keep growing into pretty little embryo's. Sunday will be here before ya know it! 1 or 2 is a big decision. One I have been thinking a lot about today.. We are pretty set on transferring two.

As for me.. We got the call that 13 are fertilizing nicely. (they got out 22 but a lot were smaller follicles that never grew so we knew the fertilized # would be way lower) so I am very happy with the # so far. They mentioned a monday transfer but we won't really decide anything until probably saturday. I felt pretty good yesterday and this morning but as the day has gone on I have gotten SOOOO bloated and uncomfortable.. ugh . Hoping it doesn't get worse. Drinking my gatorade like crazy..

I drank a lot of Gatorade and as per the nurse had snacks throughout the day rather than 3 big meals, also I tried to eat saltier food because it is supposed to help....also I think I was a little backed up from the meds

My little embryo update for today I won't get a call tomorrow so I have to wait until transfer day for any other information.

    8 that are 7-8 cells
    1 that is 12 cells
    2 that are 4-5 cells

Really hoping that our LO is in there somewhere

@Mrs.Pinecone316: 13 is awesome!!! Great news!!

@mrswin: Those are great numbers!!! Two more days!!!

My appointment went well. My follies are growing pretty fast so I took my Ganirelix as soon as I got home from the appointment this morning. I go back Sunday and then daily after that. Looks like I'll probably only stim in total for 8 or 9 days perhaps. I wish I had more than I do, of course, but I'll just hope that more pop up or that at least the ones I do have are good quality!!

I have on the right: 12,11,10 and 6
    Left: 12, 12, 11, 10, and 9

I'm worried my estrogen is too low, but she said it is fine. It's 300. I can't remember what it should be at this point with nine follies this size.

Oh well, at least we are still going strong!! Feeling super exhausted but no other symptoms really. Oh, the bloating. I got my loose capris out today. Other clothes are too tight already!

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@Jenn23: Looks like things are going really well for you so far. I don't know if it helps but I saw a big pick up in the number of follicles towards the end of my stims - I only had 7 at my first check but ended up with 15 at the last check before trigger and 17 retrieved!

OK, ladies...I'm freaking out now. Just did lots of googling on stimming fast and now I'm so upset because it seems most eggs aren't of great quality if you stim quickly. Is there anybody out there that grew follicles very fast and still had good quality embryos? I'm worried now.

I read on a forum (some infertility or IVF forum) just now numerous posts about how eggs were poor if they stimmed too fast. One woman said her RE said she was moving too quickly so he reduced her meds. But my nurse said everything is fine. Worried now that my RE is not necessarily doing the right thing. I'm second guessing everything.

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@Jenn23: You are on day 5 of stims today right?

I just checked FF and my notes say that on Day 4 of stims all my follicles were between 8-10mm and on Day 6 they were between 10-14mm. I think you are doing fine, I only stimmed for 9 days before trigger and so far everything seems to be alright. Try not to Google it is evil!
