Not only would i never wait in line for this, i intentionally stay away from target when these sales are going on! Checked online jist for fun and everything is sold out. Cute stuff though!

Some cute girls (4+ stuff) a smattering of infant toddler, some XL and XXL women's stuff and some home stuff left at my target.

My target still has a lot of it! This area isn't into it.

I picked this up this morning for DD.

I was awful and paid 2x retail on eBay for a 12 mo swim cover so T and I can match in Hawaii- they had nothing smaller than 2t in toddler stuff in my store. There are thousands of items on eBay- crazy.

@HLK208: I went into target for something else yesterday afternoon and there were still a few things in the women's section...surprising!

I have a friend that works for Lily. I think some of the kids stuff is cute. I don't think I would buy it for myself. I should check out my local Target to see what they have left.

@blackbird: no chance with that much demand this was a one time thing!

@jedeve: Agree! It's actually pretty genius on LP's behalf...They generated A TON of insane buzz and maintained their exclusivity. I read a Business Week article about how Michael Kors is failing as a brand bc he made it too available to the masses with lower end lines and heavy outlet presence. LP did a little marketing stunt that baited FAR more people than there was availability for, so they maintained their image as a high-end exclusive brand and it was obviously also a win for Target. I admire the PR skills that went down here!

@BandDmommy: I'm torn on the eBay sellers on this type of thing. On one hand it's obnoxious if you're trying to buy stuff, but on the other hand, it's also the "fault" of the buyers. They wouldn't do it if there wasn't such high demand. Just demonstrates how materialistic and consumer-focused our society is. There's literally no item I can think of that I would ever wait in line over like this! Doesn't seem worth the effort.

@catomd00: I think it's silly to spend double or triple on a target item. I'd rather spend more money and get the actual LP. There's a definite difference in quality

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

@BandDmommy: Totally agree! I wouldn't pay more than the Target list price for a Target LP item. There were definitely some super cute things that I would have loved to have scored, but the $30 Target LP shift dress is not the same thing as the real deal $200 LP shift dress. It may be a good quality, but I'm with you - it's still a Target item and before I paid jacked up prices for the Target LP item on ebay, I'd just spend a bit more and get what I know is the high quality and cut I'm already familiar with.

If it was the $200 LP stuff getting sold at Target for $30, then yeah - $100 on Ebay is still a great deal. But it's not. It's a $30 made-for-Target dress going for triple or double. Still VERY cute, but not the same thing, so I'm surprised at how many are purchasing on Ebay...

Oh and for those wondering, this was it for LP according to the news...No restocks. Maybe that will change but it seems like they planned on it being one and done.

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@BandDmommy: completely agree and I don't even get why people would buy once at. The incremental cost of buying "real" LP isn't that much. I was just saying I can't fault people for reselling it on eBay for a markup if the market will bear it...

I@PrincessBaby: it's an interesting marketing tactic. I'd be interested to hear how much it drives sales of their regular line..

I don't see them doing a permanent line at target if they are worried about diluting the brand, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do another blitz like this.

@PrincessBaby: I would be very interested to see what impact this has on revenue for original LP. I think they did get a ton of press but I wonder how many people will actually go out and buy the real stuff now who weren't already existing customers.

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

@catomd00: Fwiw - I'm just one consumer (and a previous LP customer) and since I'm 38.5 weeks pregnant, haven't bought anything from there in a while. But this little shenanigan got me eyeballing a pair of adorable shorts and a couple of other things for my (hopeful) return to a reasonable postpartum size, and since I obviously couldn't get them, I turned to the regular LP site to look for similar items. I can't try them on right now, so it's moot point for me, I just pinned them for later, but if I was my normal non-pregnant self, I would have probably went to my local LP store to try on the similar items and if they worked - bought them. And would have just chalked it up to "That's the breaks" as far as the pricing goes. I think the goal was additional exposure to the brand - the colors, style, "feel" of the brand, if I had to guess.

@Truth Bombs: @PrincessBaby: I would think it will hurt their brand. Part of the high fashion culture is exclusivity, and their high-low target collab could devalue their brand!

@PrincessBaby: the radio was discussing this this morning-a lot of people calling in that they weren't familiar with Lily Pulitzer and who is this designer and what is the hype? The interest has been sparked. People who likely weren't familiar with it now ARE and may be likely to buy a full priced item now and then.

But I sorta think of target as a place that designer brands go to die a little...

@PrincessBaby: same here. We went to target and after seeing how picked over it was DH gave me green light to buy some items from her store.

It amazes me that people will pay so much for it on EBay because it is still Target quality. It's not going to last long.

I don't know if any moms here are shopping for 4T size, but I have the blue starfish print shift dress in 4T if anyone wants it before I return later this week. It was bought for a friend who passed on it.

ETA Saks.com is having a FF sale for 30% off and at that discount the little girls LP dress prices are really not that far off.. Also considering it's presumably nicer quality.

  26. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@PrincessBaby: agreed with not paying more than target price for a target item except in cases like youboots where she already had half of what she was looking for. But generally yeah. I can't really afford the real thing so I'm more likely to just pick a different brand altogether, and if I REALLY want something from the brand I'll save & splurge.

And seriously if I see anyone wearing it IRL and happen to recognize the couple pieces posted here or I saw when I quickly clicked over to target.com the other day... I WILL be wondering whether they waited in line all night or if they bought it off eBay. Hahaha

@BandDmommy: precisely. I just bought DD a new with tags Missoni for target sweater dress for $8 from a neighbor.

The LP stuff is adorable, especially the matching mommy/daughter pueces and the home items, but there was no way I was going to Target on Sunday.

Looks like target is trying to outsmart the eBay sellers. They have reduced the return window for Lilly items to 14 days hoping people will refrain from paying inflated prices on eBay for two weeks and the sellers will be forced to return the items to the store rather than eat the cost.

@Truth Bombs: that's interesting. I didn't even know a retailer could change the return policy after purchase. I would assume the policy at purchase is what they would need to be held to (and which is stated on the receipt.)

I bought a dress for DD online and it was clearly and boldly stated before I even hit "place order" that LP items had a 14 day return policy. I don't know how it was handled in store, but it was very clear with online orders.

  34. birdofafeather

    pineapple / 12053 posts

@Truth Bombs: @LC: I was told at the store that the return was 2 weeks as well!

  35. catomd00

@LC: that makes sense then it was decided in advance. The article posted made it seem like it was a decision made after the fact.

@T-Mom: Thanks for the Saks info! I totally bought into all of the LP hype and ordered my girls matching outfits and they were, as you said, not much more than Target pricing...

@PrincessBaby: I was tempted to order some LP for DD and I for Mother's Day now that I'm obsessed with the idea of matching. Did you order those or pick up in store? I'm wondering if they run true to size? I don't have a Saks nearby so would have to mail back if I needed to return it (pain in the ass). I should probably size up to be safe but I really want her to wear it for Mother's Day in a couple weeks so I want to get her current size.

    honeydew / 7488 posts

    @PrincessBaby: too cute!

@twodoghouse: My experience is that it's pretty TTS....I know it's Free shipping at Saks, I am not sure about returns, but if it's free returns too I would order both sizes and just return the one that didn't work. Still a PITA, but less of one since you at least won't be stressing about not having it in time:)

My matching outfit obsession for my girls was taken up a notch with all of this Lilly for Target madness....And I also am being sucked into the idea of matching them....I REALLY want this dress but I can't try it on for now due to being hugely pregnant, so it's just pinned, but I want to kind of match them too! Can't find that print in anything I really like though...

So the LP for Target campaign did work to suck some of us in, lol
