On Sunday my hero, my father, lost his 10 year battle with cancer and four month battle with leukemia. We are heart broken!!! After spending 13 days in the hospital my dad took matters into his own hands and went peacefully on his terms. My dads style. I am crushed he will never meet and play with my children, but at the same time I know he is in heaven watching over my baby in heaven. So in a way he was able to meet one of my babies. I just miss him terribly, and thought we would have longer with him.

OH hon! I'm so sorry. I lost my dad 6 years ago, and especially now that LO is almost here, I really feel for the parts of my life he cannot be a part of. No advice to give except take the time to mourn and try to remember the good times.

There are still ways for your LO (and other future babies!) to get to know all about your dad though! My son Charlie got to meet my parents for the first time this year, but his memory of his trip is already fading. Bee and I were talking about maybe creating a picture book that we could read Charlie at night, with pictures of my family and the places he visited.
That way, he would get to "spend some time" with them on a regular basis and hopefully that would help him remember what happened.
I wonder if you created a book about your dad, if that might be a special memory for you and also be something you could share with your children? I remember my mom showed me a photo of her father once, and I stared at it for hours...

So sorry for your loss! I lost my mom unexpectedly almost five years ago. I never thought I'd be able to get through pregnancy/parenting without her. My LO is only eight weeks and even though I miss her terribly I plan to let LO know he has a very special guardian angel with him always.

I am so sorry for your loss! I recently lost my grandfather who played more of a father role my whole life sense my dad wasn't really in the picture. It's so hard and it does get easier. Cherish the memories you have with I'm and tell your future LO's ALL about him. That's what my brother has done with his children and their great grandma they never met. When ever the kids see a rainbow, butterfly, pretty clouds they say that's Grandma Ruth painting a picture for me. Melts my heart! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is nice to read that he passed away peacefully and on his own terms.
My FIL passed away from cancer almost a year ago and he was not able to meet my LO. We have a memory box hanging in my LO's room and we tell my LO often that his grandpa is watching over him every moment of every day.

I am so sorry for your loss! My brother in law lost his dad last month (3 days after he married my sister in law) and I just could not imagine...Whether you expect it (because the person has been ill) or it comes out of left field, its devastating none the less.

I lost my stepfather 1.5 years ago. Much like your dad, he also lived and died on his own terms, and knowing that has brought my family and me a lot of peace. I remember how difficult those first days and weeks were and I am so sorry you are going through them now. Take time with your family to remember, to laugh and to cry.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My Husband Lost his dad to leukemia when he was 19. Neither LO or I had the chance to meet him. Just remember Your Dad has the best view of your life and he's always watching over your family.

I am so very, very sorry. My mom died 6 years ago and it still hurts that she won't get to meet her grandchild. I will say that, while the sadness never totally goes away, the pain does change and become less all-consuming. I didn't begin grieving her death until 3 years later, but I finally did accept it. It doesn't mean I like it or that I don't miss her or that she isn't a part of our lives anymore. I talk about her all the time and plan to teach LO about her. But the grief becomes more a part of who you are than something to battle, if that makes sense.
