@ALV91711: Sorry you had a bad day! I seriously think babies are crazy for not wanting to nap!
@Adira: Could you just put him to bed a little later?
@QueensBee: I am totally fine. Was just a 24 hr bug I guess. How are you feeling? I am sure your hair looks great! I remember when I dyed my darker to my new natural it was such a shock. I could keep up with the blonde highlights anymore. But I am still not used to the dark hair, 10 yrs later. I miss my blonde hair. So glad he liked pizza!! I would hate it if R didn't like pizza.

So my parents were here today, my Dad and DH were installing gas logs in our fireplace. They ran into issues so it took like all day and aren't done. But DH can finish up himself tomorrow after one more trip to lowes. But my Mom loved spending the day with R! She was in a great mood after her afternoon nap. I even raked leaves so they had time just them.

R had a French Fry!! I gave her one after she finished her veggie purée from my lunch. She loved it! Also ate some pulled pork.

And tonight she was standing on me and was leaning up against me and she had pulled my shirt down and BITE me!! It hurt!!!

@Smurfette: Well, whenever he takes a nap close to bedtime, he wakes up to eat, but as soon as he's done eating, he just starts crying because he's tired and wants to go to bed, but I always have to put his overnight diaper on him, so he spends a good 10 minutes just sobbing.

So jealous you gave R some finger food and she ate it!! She has good taste - pulled pork and fries are yummy!! Sorry she bit you though!!! That's terrible! Xander's bitten me twice the past couple days and I've had to end nursing sessions sooner than I want.

@Adira: I was laying on the floor on my belly and she crawled over to me and had the best time "biting" my hair and pulling it out of my ponytail. Seriously, babies are weird!!

I am sorry about Xander!! Hopefully he sleeps late for you!

@Adira: That sucks that he took a late nap. At least he goes down for naps easy. We put Isaac to bed about half hour early at 6:30. I hope he sleeps tonight. Hopefully Xander sleeps good again for you.

@QueensBee: That is awesome that you went back to your natural colour. I'm sure you will be used to it after a couple weeks. Pizza sounds delicious for Pete, glad he liked it.

Last night we had homemade potato wedges with dinner. I gave Isaac one and he devoured it. Today we were grocery shopping and the lineups were long. DH went and got us a snack from McDonalds and we gave Isaac a fry, he loved it, though it was probably the salt he was loving. I don't want to make fries a habit, but a treat once in a while is ok with me.

@Smurfette: That is so awesome that R got to spend time with her Grandma. Ouch for biting, I hope that is not a habit she gets into.

Isaac has started to like holding my pony tail, today though he was pulling all my hair out of it. He likes to bite my clothes or shoulder when he is getting hungry. I hope he comes up with a better signal soon.

@ALV91711: I am with on the every once in awhile. But I will say I would have been crushed if she didn't like French fries!! R loves to play with my hair when back in a pony. She eats it and everything.

She slept till 530 today so somewhat better.

I'm jealous of all these babies eating French fries! Carter has MSPI and has broken out in a rash from a few foods, so I've had to be super careful about introducing new stuff to watch for allergies. Lately he has loved green beans and sweet potatoes though, so we're moving in the right direction with food. He is also interested in puffs but he still isn't too sure about what to do with them. It's fun watching him play with foods His sleep this week has been awful though! He was down to only one wake up around 4:30 am and was occasionally sleeping through the night, but one top tooth came in on Monday and I think he's working on another one. He's been waking up 2 or 3 times a night all week and it is ROUGH after getting used to such good sleep. I'm so ready for that tooth to come through so we can get back to some good sleep!

@Smurfette: We were up at 5:30 today too. Yuck!

These babies need to learn how good sleep is.

@jodyblair: That is good that he loves his veggies. Hopefully that other tooth will pop through so he can go back to nice long stretches of sleep.

To chime in on the hair business, mine loves to pull on my hair - especially if I have it in a ponytail. She goes straight for the scalp if she's higher than my chin to pull on my hair. It's awful.

But at least she sleeps! We have our days where for whatever reason we won't nap until nearly 4, which makes bedtime difficult, but we're actually pretty lax about bedtime. So long as it occurs sometime between 6:30 and 8:30, we're pretty happy. But then we have two kids to juggle and one of them has a toddler bed...

Currently we're on a two nap schedule for DD and a one nap schedule for DS. If I can help it, I try to stretch DS's nap until DD goes down for her second nap. We wake around 7, she goes down for a nap between 9 and 10, down for another nap around 1 and 2. Then, as I said, bed between 6:30 and 8:30. Usually she goes down pretty easily around 7. We normally only have one night wake up, around 5, but sometimes we have two night wakings at 12 and 3. Those days she usually wakes up earlier.

But on the flip side, at her age, big brother was a horrid napper and an even worse night sleeper. I think at this age we were still doing three naps and I had as many as 5 night wakings, 2 minimum. This is the most rest I've had in the past two years, even with her night wakings!

Sorry for the rambling, just wanted to say I've been there. It gets better!

@jodyblair: Xander won't be eating fries anytime soon either - I heard that McDonald's dip theirs in milk before frying, so I'm afraid of all other fries not. Xander's allergic to milk, so I have to be careful what I introduce him to too!

@Adira: really? I never heard that before.

R was a beast this afternoon so tired and wouldn't nap. We never did a solid dinner cause we for a drive to see if she would fall asleep, silly parents, not a chance. She was funny tonight she cried once when I put her in the crib looked up at me and I said nite nite, I love you. And she layed down. Then for 20 mins she didn't make a sound but stood up, layed down, sat up, layed down, repeat before she lost the battle of to sleep.

Hi everyone! Hope everyone has a great short week!!

So we started CIO on Friday - even though her 4th tooth is coming in and dare I say it worked and is amazing!?!?!

Friday: 16 minutes crying, 1 wake up to eat at 3, slept until 6.
Saturday: 55 minutes crying (sucked big time!!), 1 wake up to eat at 3, slept until 6.
Sunday: 11 minutes crying, 1 wake up to eat at 2, slept until 6:30.

I know it is still new, but I can't believe we didn't do this before. I got more sleep this weekend than I have in the past 2 weeks combined!! We kinda feel like bad parents that we were not helping her learn how to go to sleep on her own. Now onto tackle naps!!!

@sheskrafty: Wow, that sounds great. Did you put her down totally awake? What did you do when she woke up? Did you put her back down awake?

We definitely can't tackle any of this sleep stuff until we get some answers on his ears. (We go to the ENT tomorrow morning-- He's had constant ear infections since starting day care and thus hasn't slept much since then either.) I really feel like I am starting to lose my mind from lack of sleep. He hasn't slept more than 3 hours straight in forever. And then he won't go back down for ages. On Saturday night he went to bed at 7:15pm, woke at 9:30pm screaming and wouldn't go back to sleep until 1:45am. And my husband is sick with a sinus infection so I was doing most if it solo. And recovering from my own sinus infection. BOO!

@travellingbee: We put her down totally awake at bedtime and after her feed. I was really surprised that she cried/fussed for less than 1 minute each time after her night feed. It is amazing she's learning to put herself back to sleep every time she comes out of a sleep cycle. I used the advice from Troublesome Tots and it is truly a life saver. This is coming from someone that was co-sleeping just last week because K was screaming her head off because of her teeth every 20 minutes. It is a miracle.

I'm so sorry to hear about the ear infections. I'm glad you'll be getting answers soon. I totally know about sleep deprivation - just know it can change quickly!! Hope your house gets well soon!!

@Smurfette: I think someone mentioned it on one of the posts about Xander's milk allergies. I had never heard of it before either!

No, I haven't started using the convertible yet. I was going to, but then we had our appointment with the allergist and they measured Xander and claimed he's only 27" (even though he was 27" at 6 months and when I measured him at home, he was over 28"), so I don't know... Maybe we'll make the switch this weekend. Have you switched?

@jodyblair: I'm not sure if we even have a Chick Fil A near us! I'll have to look into that! Thanks for the tip!

@sheskrafty: So glad to hear that your sleep training is working!!! YAY!!!! And if you figure out how to nap train - let me know - I have no idea what I'm doing. Sometimes Xander just refuses to nap and will cry for an hour before I give up and then I nurse him and he falls asleep on the boob.

@sheskrafty: Sounds like CIO went great!! I bet tonight will be even better.
@travellingbee: Your poor house! I hope this is the end of the sicknesses!
@Adira: We haven't even decided on what seat we are going to get. I really want the Clek but I don't know how it will fit in my Accord and I really don't want to spend that much. DH wants a Britax but I don't want one of those. All I know is R is getting SO heavy in that seat, when we do carry it.

  19. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Did you see about the Clek being $349??? I forget where I saw that - I think someone posted about it here? You should just look into their return policy and see if you can easily return it if it doesn't work. I suspect it'll fit just fine in your Accord though!

  20. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I did see that, but you can't return it since it is on sale. I want to try it out in my car first but I am going to talk to DH about it tonight.

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Can you find out the dimensions of it and then maybe try out a similar seat in size? Or even just break out the tape measurer and see if it would fit? You could also ask the CSFTL group if they think it would fit in an Accord RFing.

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Well the problem is we have no time till next weekend at the earliest to even try out a seat in my car. We don't need one anytime soon. I think she will be fine in the infant seat till she is 1 honestly. It is stressing me out, trying to figure out what seat to get. The CSFTL's always give a new answer every time I ask a question. I don't find them that friendly.

I just want someone to say get this seat!

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: hahaha, yeah, I know what you mean. I've really heard AWESOME things about the Clek Foonf - I really don't think you can go wrong with it. I would just measure your car and see if it can fit all 33" of the Clek Foonf going front to back. It's tall, so I would think that would be the only limitation for you.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I said it before, but Xander definitely has two of his top teeth in, and I don't think they are bothering him anymore! Yay!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: What? I put R in a 9 month sleeper (Carter's) and it was huge. Target brand fits her fine though. So weird

Awesome he has more teeth! I am getting super annoyed that her 4th top one isn't in yet. I know that it is bothering her, she is drooling like crazy, but I don't see anything.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Well, I suspect maybe because it had gone through the wash and dryer and shrunk? Who knows! All I know is it fit him!!!

Awww, poor R! I hope it comes in soon! I can see the other two top teeth for Xander, so I know they're coming, they're just not in yet!

  28. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I don't know how you do it with two little ones! At least if they have an afternoon nap together it gives you a bit of a break.

@Adira: You could make some home made fries for him. That is awesome that his top teeth are through. I think Isaac is starting to work on them but I can't see anything yet, he is just acting the same way he did before I could see the bottom ones.

@sheskrafty: That is awesome that CIO is working so well. Do you plan on doing the same thing for naps? It made world of difference when we did CIO for going to bed, he mostly only gets up once between 3-4 now.

@travellingbee: I hope you get some answers at your appointment tomorrow and that all three of you get healthy so you can get some sleep.

So I thought today would be a good nap day but it turned out not too be. Yesterday he took a morning nap again and then did this morning, although only 35 min. Then two hours later we had a 40 min nap. I figured one more short afternoon nap and we'd be good. I could not get him to sleep. So now I have a ball of crankiness on my hands until bed time.

He is just getting so frustrated, he wants to move and get places but he can't figure out how to get his back half up. He then ends up pushing himself backwards which usually makes him mad as he is getting further from where he wants to be.

Last night I gave him a strip of chicken breast I had baked and he loved it. I also did roasted sweet potatoes and he loved those too.

@ALV91711: Awww, sorry that last nap didn't happen and you're dealing with a cranky baby!!

Isaac and Xander sound so similar in their attempts to move! Xander can get up on all fours, but half the time he just pushes his lower half backwards and gets further and further from his goal! It's so funny, but he definitely gets frustrated!

@Adira: @ALV91711: Right with you on the frustrated baby not crawling yet. He was whining after ending up on his belly (again!) and I realized that I am ok with him waiting a little while to crawl ! He scoots around and pushes back and is able to get into things already if we're not watching and it reminded me I really need to baby proof (and keep the floor more clean...) Over the weekend he kept scooting over towards the extension cord we have a lamp plugged into and grabbing/pulling it.

@ALV91711: So exciting about your move! I would totally put the tree up first!

So R woke up at 350, talked to herself and was back asleep by 415. Wish I could say the same thing. But I finally woke her up at 640!!! I changed her diaper, threw on some clothes, and we left the house. She had her first bottle at day care instead of home. I wonder how long she would have slept! Fingers crossed this keeps up.

  40. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Ugh, I hear you on baby proofing! We haven't even started yet! And the floors... the other day Xander was rolling around and then I went over to him and he was all dusty! Ooops! But the floors were cleaner in that spot, haha.

@Smurfette: That sucks that she woke you up, but awesome that she was able to fall back asleep on her own and slept a decent amount!! Now to just eliminate the MOTN wake-up!

OMG you guys, my stupid alarm didn't go off this morning! I woke up an HOUR LATE to Xander stirring (thank goodness)! Ugh! So I'm late to work! AND it's snowing out and the roads are slippery!
