D turns 5 months this week and we're struggling with his sleep and I'm not sure what to do next. He fall asleep pretty easily, but he has a rough time with MOTN wakings. I used to nurse him to sleep, but this week I changed up our routine a little and have been nursing him in a chair instead of lying down and putting him in his crib tired but awake. Most nights he has fallen asleep on his own, twice I had to put my hand on his chest and shush him and give him the pacifier, and then he fell asleep.

But he's gotten into an awful habit of waking some time from 11-11:30. And then every 1.5-3 hours after that. So we generally have wake ups at 11, 2, 3:30, 5, 6, 7, up for the day at 8. We try giving him the pacifier instead of feeding at wake ups, but it doesn't always work. I know he can sleep longer stretches, he used to 5-6, and he has done 8 a couple times.

So at this point I'm not sure what to do. I hear people talk about sleep training and it seems to be mostly for getting baby to sleep at bed time. If we do some type of CIO or modified CIO, will that help with the night wakings? Should just keep working on drowsy but awake at bed time?

He's had a pretty bad cold for most of the last month, and I'm not sure how much of this I should chalk up to that and just wait it out.

But I need to start getting some sleep soon. I woh, and I worry about driving sleep deprived and my work is starting to suffer.
