I recognize and say hello to a growing number of our neighbors with each passing month, but I have no idea what their names are! After a while, it gets awkward to ask them what their name is. Basically this is me:
Now that we've been living in our current apartment for a few years, the list of neighbors who I sorta know (but not really) is skyrocketing! Is this just a city thing, or does it happen in the suburbs too?

We live in the suburbs with great, scenic sidewalks so I'll often wave or say hello to people passing by that I don't know. We never stop and talk though, so it's not weird.

On our street, we know the neighbours on either side who we talk to quite frequently, the one neighbour's sister, BIL, and nephew, and the pet sitter. Everyone else we exchange waves and pleasantries with, but no more. We're in a family-friendly burb.

I'm in the burbs.. I am horrible with names but what ends up happening with me is I know the names of all the dogs around my neighborhood but don't know the owners names! We will talk and I will know stuff about them but when it comes to actually saying hi I can only say their dogs name. Terrible.

I know 5 of our 9. We live in a cul de sac. It took me a few times though to remember their names! I am just terrible with names, no offense to anyone but I just don't remember. We also have a fb group for our neighborhood so that actually helped me learn/remember their names.

I'm in the burbs and I'm not good with neighbors names but DH knows everyone's name and helps me out.
Be comforted in the fact they probably don't know/forget your name too

After two years in my house, I know my neighbors on each side fairly well, and the ones directly across the street okay. I have forgotten their names at times though, so I just check our county's website to see what names are on the property listings. Slightly creepy, but effective.

Yeah, we know most of the neighbors on our floor by now but know the names of maybe half of them. And then there's the guy who DH swears introduced himself by one name when asked, and then a year later it turned out that's not his name when he and his wife came to visit. Sooo awkward! DH is usually really good at remembering people's names, so I'm guessing the guy just didn't want to introduce himself cause no one in NYC does it

I'm terrible at names and I "know" at least 3 moms in my building whose names I can never remember--I know their kids' names though!
Which is probably even more awkward.

I recognize most of my neighbors, but I only know the last name of the lady across the hall, so I just call her Ms. X. No one has young kids in our building, so we aren't really socializing with any of the neighbors, but most people at least say hello.
