I have a phone call scheduled with my doctor tomorrow morning to discuss my latest chemical pregnancy. This was my third loss in a row and within 7 months. When TTC for DD, I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility, possible progesterone deficiency and conceived DD on second round of 100 mg clomid. TTC #2 has resulted in getting pregnant very easily but a blighted ovum (progesterone level = 10), a miscarriage at 8-9 weeks most likely due to chromosomal abnormalities (progesterone = 6 and prescribed meds), and now a chemical pregnancy (progesterone = 11 at 10dpo and prescribed meds).
My doctor thinks that all have been so different that there isn't any intervention really necessary. However he does believe that all 3 may be progesterone related but the meds aren't really helping sustain a pregnancy. Do you think it's worth trying clomid to help with my progesterone levels? Any other next steps you might suggest talking with the doctor about?

@Tidybee: I would be asking to go on progesterone support as soon as you get your BFP, so that you're combating that from a very early stage.
I don't know the links between Clomid & Progesterone - but if you ovulate already on your own, what you'd want to watch with Clomid is the risk of thinning your lining. You don't want that to negatively affect your implantation, you know?

Regardless of how far along you were, all three were losses so I think it's worth getting some kind of testing and/or intervention. The purpose of Clomid is not really to raise your progesterone but to help with ovulation, possibly to produce multiple follicles. It sounds like you need progesterone supplementation and if RPL testing shows anything, additional help there. My RE had me start on progesterone a couple days after O every cycle.

I have read that some doctors like to prescribe Clomid or Femera for 'stronger ovulation' which in turn should also result in higher progesterone levels. My REs office prescribes progesterone supplements to be started the day after ovulation. I hated the inserts and she said I could wait till 7dpo to test progesterone, but if it was low, it would already be too late to start taking it, so I think 10dpo is definitely too late to help too. I'd try starting it immediately after O, that is standard protocol for IVF cycles with my RE too.

It's still a red flag in my book...all three of those types would lend me to ask for some blood work (that's how they found my MTHFR) But yeah clomid is pretty standard. Sorry you're in this boat.

The month that I took Clomid ( I developed a cyst and moved to injectables after), my progesterone was significantly higher than it usually was. So much so that I was kind of convinced I was pregnant. So I think it's worth it for sure.
When I took progesterone suppositories (Crinone) I was instructed to take them at 2 dpo and until I did a beta to give extra support before any potential implantation occurred. So maybe you could discuss possibly taking progesterone support earlier?

After my second loss, I wasn't comfortable TTC again until we attempted to get some answers. I ended up seeing a naturopath who looked at my history and tested me for various clotting disorders (autoimmune) based on knowing I have Hashimoto's. I was one of the lucky few who found answers, but most don't unfortunately.
If you're up for it, find a provider that cares and is willing to test you for anything and everything that could be causing issues. I don't believe in "unexplained" IF or RPL. Let me know if you want any more details on what I had tested.

Also, what kind of progesterone support were you on? There are lots of different options, some more heavy-duty than others, might be worth asking about?

@spaniellove: @PurplePumps: I took Clomid for stronger ovulation because the progesterone immediately after O was just not helping me get pregnant during TTC #1, so we switched to Clomid after a year.
@Mrs.Someone: @blackbird: For some reason, he seems to be resistant to testing because as he says, we already have a perfectly healthy daughter. My old doctor before we moved (who helped us immensely with TTC #1) was so much more helpful and involved, so that's been difficult to switch to now two different practices who are basically saying - but you're getting pregnant so we're not going to worry for now. I'm hoping after our conversation tomorrow, he will send me for something. Or maybe I'll look into the naturopath as well.
@jaguar: it's always been just prometrium suppositories or oral progesterone. We probably should switch to something else.... -
@Tidybee: Would you be open to seeing an RE? OBs tend not to be very good with repeat m/c and IF meds in general, so an RE could give you more specialized advice even if you aren't having trouble with the getting pregnant part.

@Tidybee: my doctor believes that progesterone support after a bfp is often too late and she had me start from 3dpo, basicly as soon as O was confirmed.
Oh and my dosage was 400mg of cyclogest every night as a pessary (that is a natural progesterone). -
@tidybee, Huh. I would probably see another dr. I don't appreciate my concerns being discounted and your daughter could've just been a lucky as hell baby, too. People do develop secondary infertility. Having one healthy daughter doesn't mean you are immune to issues!!! Ugh how frustrating.

As this is a new practice for me, I asked for an appointment to go over my history and the circumstances around all 3 losses
and where to go from here. They were happy to oblige and i have one next Friday. -

although the one very annoying thing is that they aren't considering this a miscarriage and therefore not a loss. How insulting. But they're willing to discuss more thankfully.

@Tidybee: Might be worth a shot. When I cycle, I'm on 400mg pessaries, twice a day. Pretty strong dose, but it helps, I think!

My re considered my chemical a loss and ordered an rpl panel. It gave me some answers (mthfr treated with baby aspirin) and the next pregnancy resulted in my son.
