Sometimes it seems like LO is so close to talking. This weekend we heard a very clear 'mama' while DH was holding her and she was looking at me. I couldn't get her to repeat it though Hoping her first word for real is Mama (and that means I win!)

@lindseykaye: My Dh swears he heard E say bounce bounce when I was bouncing him in the bouncy seat. He is really saying Dada.
He is also shaking his head no. Sometimes when i ask him a question he will shake his head no. But I don't think he really gets the meaning just yet. It's cute though because his whole body shakes "no" with him!

I CANNOT BELIEVE WE HAVE 8 MONTH OLDS!!

so ds is pulling up to stand like a champ and is cruising! but he still isn't full-on crawling nor is he pulling up to sit by himself! lack of tummy time? should i be concerned? i'm really not at this point, esp since he's mobile in other ways. but was j/w how the other nov babes are doing!

@mrsjyw: Exactly the same in everything you mentioned.

@mrsjyw: ack I have a later baby he is 8 months tomorrow not ready!! I wouldn't worry about crawling - lots of babies skip it. We just were at a play group and both other babies started crawling around 10 months the moms said.

LO has always been a mover and shaker - he is doing everything except walk unassisted... he's let go from cruising and stood on his own for a few seconds twice today already. I am not ready.

@mrsjyw: C has to do this really roundabout way to get herself to sitting. She has to be on her belly, and then push herself back while both legs swing to one side and then she sits up from there. She isn't just like laying on her back and then folding her top half up. Does that make any sense at all?

But I wouldn't worry about it. A has always been so advanced and standing/cruising way early! He probably just skipped the stages before that.

C will be 8 months on Saturday (WHAT?!). She's been pulling up to standing the last week or two. And just now starting to be able to stand on her own for a split second before toppling over.

She's crawling faster and faster each day too! Ack.

@highwire: Hah yes the fast crawling. In our new house we have a long hallway and she loves to race down towards where we are (or away from us!) and giggles the whole time. Like, "You guys this is SO MUCH FUN! Do you SEE how FAST I can go?!?!".

@mrsjyw: there is a little boy in my son's daycare class that is doing exactly what your's is doing and yet mine is rolling over like a steam roller, sitting up and pulling up (sort of) but not crawling. They told me that both are right on track and not to worry about crawling vs not right now. I figure they see so many kids at different levels they should have a good idea of what is going on...

@turkeylurkey: L isn't crawling either. I'm trying not to stress about it since the dr told me 9 months is average and my DH never crawled, but it's a little concerning to me just because most of her little friends crawl!

N is army crawling all over the place and rolls like its his job. He isn't pulling up on anything, nor is he pushing to sitting. He is quite hefty though (23 pounds!!) so I figured all that weight may be slowing him down on some fronts?

@mrsjyw: i know i can't believe they are 8 months old! 4 more months till 1 year?? do we need to start a 1 year birthday thread soon?? yikes!

LO is army crawling like a champ but she doesn't pull up or sit by herself yet. I'm alittle worried, but she does stand if i hold her so maybe she's just not interested in it yet? one good thing is that i don't have to baby proof anything higher than she can reach from the crawling stance.

@kodybear: I def wouldn't worry. If your LO is bearing weight on her legs that's a good sign of muscle development. She probably just doesn't have the interest to get around quickly yet. She has everything she needs : )

    kiwi / 541 posts

@MamaChin: Wow 23lbs! I agree that might be slowing him down a bit.
I know 8 months where did it go! We just lowered his crib mattress because when he sits up he was chest above the crib rail. He hadn't shown interest in trying to pull up on the crib rail but just the same I didn't want to wait for him. I've been reading up on baby proofing things and OMG there is SOOO much to think about and/or do. Ugh makes me tired thinking about it

A had a wknd of milestones! He is 37 weeks in the thick of wonder week! Fri he randomly pshed to sitting from lying down a cpl.times. I thought it was a fluke and then all day yest he kept dping it and crawling a cpl steps before falling to army crawl. Today he started crawling and is all over the place!

    @mrsjyw: yayy!! go A!

M is crawling all over the place and pulling up on everything she can. It is so fun hovering over her every second of the day to make sure she doesn't fall on our tile floors, ugh! We are looking for houses and I am all about carpet now lol. She also recently learned to clap her hands when we say "yayy!" so cute her favorite "words" at the moment are mama and dada, usually mama when she is upset and dada when she is excited haha

@highwire: @NovBaby1112: thanks mamas! it's like a whole new world out there (for him and for us!! :P)

@NovBaby1112: A also says "ummmmmmmmmmma" when he's sad/crying LOL (korean for mama)... i don't think necessarily he says it with intention yet? i can't WAIT til he's talking!!! EEEEEEEEK

@kml636: @highwire: @mrsjyw: she had been saying mamama for awhile but i don't think she associated it with me, but then one day i handed her over to someone and she looked at me with this sad face and said mama mama reaching out to me. my heart about melted!! she says it a lot now when she is in her crib and wants to get out lol

@Mrs. Tricycle: We are at the same place. Army crawling but can't pull himself to sitting.

E started infant survival swim classes on Monday. Our parents live on the lake and we felt like we needed to get him started early on swimming! He cried a lot the first day. But today (day 3) he has learned to spit the water out of his mouth, float on his back and roll-over under water and float back to the top. @NovBaby1112: OMG how sweet!

@turkeylurkey: that sounds awesome! we did swim lessons but they were more songs and splashing

AHHH LO stood unassisted today. The last few days he is all of a sudden a pro walking with his melissa & doug alligator toy and today he pulled up on my hips and let go and stared at me with a big smile for 30 seconds before leaning forward again. He showed off for DH again when he got home. Yikes!!

Cs New favorite game is pushing an overturned box around all over the floor and walking behind it. She just squeals and squeals as she travels across the floor.

@scg00387: so cool! Yikes is Right!

Have any of you started to let your's sleep with a blanket? I know they say not to until 12 months but the DH occasionally will let him and I go in there and take it off of him.

  37. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@scg00387: OMG what a big boy!! Ellie will brace against things just barely (because she likes to crawl/stand with toys in each hand) but hasn't stood unassisted yet.
    @DillonLion: Cute. Cute cute cute.
@turkeylurkey: We don't have a blanket in there but her lovey is kind of a blanket with a head on it? She has that available to her for snuggles. Months ago we were really struggling with sleep and would give her a blanket pretty frequently. She calmed down thanks to the weight of the blanket and wasn't as mobile so I didn't worry about it.

  38. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@turkeylurkey: he's had an a+a security blanket for months but uses a sleep sack. I think we'll stick with sleep sacks as long as possible because he rolls around so much I think a blanket would fall right off, not because it would make me nervous.

@DillonLion: boxes are the best toys ever!

  39. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@turkeylurkey: I give her one of the A & A breathable blankets. I freaked out at first about it, but she seems to handle it fine. But yes, she always kicks it off anyways.

  40. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@turkeylurkey: Em is still in the sleepsack but she has an A&A security blanket and/or a little Minnie Mouse lovey blanket in her crib with her. She seems to do better when she has something to hold on to.

@scg00387: Whoa, he's really in the move now!

No new milestones here really. She's pulling herself up on everything around her but falls on her but when she lets go. She's also been super nosy (tries to stand up on the changing table to peer into the closet, bigtime stares at any baby or small child we see when we're out, etc), has figured out how to clap, and has gotten back on a blowing raspberries kick.
