I don't know what we will be doing for BC once we are given clearance for bedroom activities. My next OB appointment is on thursday and she told me at the last appointment (which was like one week pp) that we'd talk about BC and this upcoming appointment. I don't really want to do/take anything hormonal, so we may be back to condoms. I've been advised by my OB that it would be best to have two years between children due to the cesarean. I couldn't imagine having them closer in age anyway. We were talking about trying again when this little guy is around 2 years old.

I can't imagine having more children at this point, but it must get easier or there'd be a lot more only children! I had a copper IUD before pregnancy, and although it did make my periods heavier and more painful, it was worth it to have a stress free, hormone free method of BC - thinking I will probably do the same thing again.

@MamaMoose: are you taking stool softeners? I didn't go #2 until day 5 but haven't had any pain associated with it at all. Very diligent about taking my stool softeners though

I'll probably go back on the pill. It works, and doesn't impact me negatively at all. I am so ready to get back in the sack with DH as far as emotionally...obviously we still need to. wait until I am healed. Thinking about trying some other non sex activities however...

    Hello Everybody!

I'm glad we started a new thread. Although I have not been active, I have been following. I do apologize for not replying to specific posts...

As of Thursday, DS will be a month old! I can't believe that we survived 4 weeks. The first two weeks were definitely the toughest so far. I had multiple breakdowns... my most recent was this weekend. My hubby just went back to work last week and I felt very tied down. And even though it is expected, I just had to have a good cry. I am so thankful for my hubby. He has been so supportive.

Breastfeeding has gotten better to the point where I am exclusively bfing and not cringing when I hear him cry. My lactation specialist prescribed a special nipple cream which helped tremendously. I am quite impressed with some of your milk supply... I only pump about 50ml per breast at best. Maybe I will need to spend more time pumping.

As for me, I think I am 85% there after the c-section. I am able to do hour long walks and the incision looks good. I am now down to my pre-pregnancy weight (lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks) and even though it's great to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight, I need to constantly remind myself to eat some more... it is quite difficult though during this stressful time...

We just took the subway to BRU and holy shit did A have a meltdown! We couldn't find any of the elevators so had to drag the stroller up and down steps, she cried all the way round so we had to keep picking her up, she had a total screamfest on the subway platform, dropped her soother and sock in the dirt, gobbled down the 4oz bottle of pumped milk then would only soothe if held on the train home and there were so many sick people, ugh! Poor baby, she never cries like that. Oh and BRU didn't have a single thing we needed. Ha ha. Huge fail.

@JessLC: I had a copper it's which I loved/hated... Loved how it had no hormones and was so trouble free. Hated the painful cramps from my period. I don't like the idea of mini pill bug I'm really not sure what to do.

@highwire: I'm ready emotionally to be back in the sack too! I'm so glad, because so many people told me I would hate DH after LO was born!

About sex, DH has been dying to get back to it from day 1. we've been doing other stuff but will wait for my 6 week check for sex. As for birth control I'm really not sure.... I have PCOS so unlikely I'll get preg anyway.... Not really sure.

@Mrs. Tricycle: @kml636: how were your periods before the IUD? Were they relatively light? I wanted the copper too because it was non hormonal. Was implanting it painful?

@travelgirl1: oh no that sounds super stressful! sorry it didn't go well. I'm still in the phase where I feel like I can't leave the house for more than 2 hours with her because I'm not comfortable bfing in public and i don't know what I'd do if she had a meltdown. I'd probably cry with her too!

@kml636: I heard the same thing. I could not feel farther from that and he is the same.

Just found out my in laws are coming back into town to stay with us this weekend and I am so happy. They'll give Charlie lots of loving and DH and I are already planning our date lol

Trying to catch up on the entire day's posts in terms of how I feel about DH I've loved seeing him as a dad, he adores her and has been very supportive. For the first few weeks he was faultless. There's only the two of us in Canada so we've spent the entire time together, which has been lovely, but I have felt a little irked the last few weeks when he's been trying to get me to be more organised. Newborns don't have a routine, and when she sleeps want to too! But he's frustrated there isn't more routine. I also had to point out that when he gets up after a full nights sleep before getting his breakfast it would be great if he held the baby so I could finally go pee! Lol. Other than that, he's been fabulous and I love my little family

@clery: I hate then feeling of being trapped...sounds terrible but I feel trapped by bf-ing sometimes. I can't leave the house and I don't know what my schedule will be like. DH is traveling for work tomorrow and will be away for a night. I'm not looking forward to it. I need a break during the day and without him, I won't get one. Glad that bf-ing is going better! When I first started pumping I only got 2 oz. Now I get 4-5 oz. Just keep at it and it should increase.

I'm 2lbs over pre pregnancy weight now and have been since about 2 weeks Pp. I lost 16 lbs from delivery and then 7 lbs in the next 2 weeks because I had zero appetite because of the baby blues. Now just holding steady. Doc said I need to eat more today.

@JessLC: I'm the same about bfeeding, so I always take a bottle and I couldn't just whip my boob out when she guzzled that as I didn't have the nipple shield with me. Sigh. We do take her out most days though and I've been out on my own with her too. Relying on public transit has been an eye opener, or malls and negotiating escalators and steps. If I'm on my own I usually end up stranded on one floor because I'm too chicken to take the stroller on the escalator!

@mrsjyw: aw thank you. Her cord fell off at 2 weeks. Oooh I'd love to do Santa pix but don't like the idea of her being n his knee when lots of germs kids have been there all day. Neurotic first time mum much? Lol.

@travelgirl1: I have totally mastered peeing while holding the baby. Sad but true. Washing my hands while holding the baby is a little trickier.

@travelgirl1: I can't imagine taking a baby on the subway - I get nervous taking myself on the subway. Maybe it'd be different if I did it everyday

@Mrs. Tricycle: I really hate doing it, but we don't have a car so we had to bite the bullet. She's in an UpperBaby Vista bassinet which is super deep so she's really out of view and people have to really peer in to see her. I would kick some ass if anyone tried to touch her though.

@JessLC: mine were always pretty light and pain free before. After Advil was my BFF. Implantation was not too bad, felt really cranky a few days.

We just had two decent nursing sessions in a row!! DH took duty in between the two nursing sessions using a bottle of my pumped milk and a little formula. And I was able to get a 5 hour stretch of sleep that way. It seems like she is needing less and less formula as our nursing sessions improve and I pump more and more milk at each pumping session. Can't believe it. So happy. Even getting a sore nip on one side lol! Hallelujah.

  29. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: gah sorry A is cluster feeding! Growth spurt? C has had to do that a couple of times but it is way easier to give a bit of a bottle every 30 mins rather than nurse. You are doing a great job giving him the best he can get!

  30. DillonLion

Where do your babies sleep? Ours is in bassinet during day, swing early night, and then she and I snooze together on the couch in the wee morning hours in a little pillow fortress

  31. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

@travelgirl1 and @mrsjyw: I feel your pain on the cluster feeding. We have had a few days in a row now where C wants to nurse every 30 minutes or so. As soon as I put him down, even if he's beyond exhausted, he screams to be nursed again. I was so, so fortunate and got a 3-hour stretch tonight to sleep (!) but I am not banking on that continuing.

  32. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

@highwire: we alternate between the co-sleeper and the RnP. He seems to sleep more soundly (and sometimes for longer!) in the RnP. Oh, and my arms- that's his favorite place, especially during the middle of the night

  33. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@JessLC: my periods were also light before IUD, though I've always had back pain - IUD caused more pelvic cramping. Insertion was a gazillion times less painful than labor, but I wouldn't call it fun. I've read insertion is much easier after having a baby as uterus is stretchier.

  34. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@highwire: woo hoo to your sore nip! That's great news. As far as sleep goes, naps are either in my arms, in the Ergo carrier or in the RnP. At night he's in the RnP, though I've been trying to put him down in his crib after his. 5:00 AM feeding, but he always wakes up really quickly in there so I'm skipping it and sticking with the RnP this AM.

  35. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@highwire: yay, that's awesome progress! Well done you! I don't know if it helps at all but I had a really tough time bfeeding at the start and pumped lots. Now she loves nursing and does it really well. We still have the nipple shield but we've come on SO much.

She sleeps on her Moses basket at night right next to my side of the bed. We try get her in that for naps too but she tends to not go down and so mainly naps in our arms instead.

  36. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@Meggo5: Sometimes she'd nurse for a minute then fall asleep but as soon as we put her down, the girl was starving, lol. I got 3 hours then 1 and 3/4 tonight though. Hoping she'll go down again after this top up.

  37. kml636

@highwire: yay! Glad things are finally getting better for you. LO is in her Rock and play at night, bassinet in the pack and play for naps.

@highwire: woohoo to progress that rocks! Our guy sleeps in a travel bed/ bassinet inside his crib for every nap and overnight. Well be using it next week in hotels and the new house so wanted him to be used to it

After two cluster feeding nights we had the best night ever- he's. been asleep almost five hours!!! Wish I'd known so I could've pumped my boobs are going to burst and I keep checking to mAke sure he's breathing!
