My DS had his two year check up this morning and was prescribed pediasure twice a day because of his low height and weight. I'm not that impressed with the ingredients and while DS is really small, our DD(5) is small also, so I'm really not overly concerned.
Anyone else have positive or negative experiences with pediasure? Anyone find a healthier alternative?

I haven't had to look into or try pediasure at this juncture, but did he drastically fall off of his curve or something? Our pediatrician always tells us as long as our son stays close to his curve (whatever it might be) there isn't any reason to be concerned.

Is he off his curve? Do you think he’s not getting enough calories? I wouldn’t use it personally without special circumstances. Just being small by itself isn’t a problem (FYI my son is under 5th percentile for everything) nothings wrong with him that’s just his size

@Sams Mom: @gotkimchi: at 18 months he was 19lbs 11oz/30.5inches and today he was 21lbs 6oz/31.5inches. He's always been tiny but is healthy, active, definitely doesn't look/seem malnourished or anything... I feel like the pediasure is kinda unnecessary...

Ok my son at 18mo 19lb 8oz 30.5 inches
And 2 year is 21lb 8oz, 31.5 inches
So basically the same as yours lol! They didn’t recommend anything

His weight hasn't veered from his curve in 6 months, but his height has fallen off some from the look of it... But he may very well have a late growth spurt in height.
From a little bit of googling, it looks like there are lots of natural smoothie recipes that people recommend as alternatives... But I've never tried any of them, so I'm unsure of what to recommend.
The growth rate percentage wise isn't that far off from my sons from 18 month to 2 years...
29 lbs 4 oz/35.5" @ 18 months to 33 lbs 1 oz/37" @ 24 months...

@Purpledaisy: If he hasn't fallen off his curve I wouldn't use it. Some kids are just tiny! My friends oldest two kids are 18 months apart. The oldest is a girl, the second is a boy. Her boy is already bigger than his older sister! Her pediatrician had her tested for all sorts of things. Nothing came up, she is just a very petite person (and both mom and dad are petite people as well).
If anything, maybe try some green smoothies with extra fat? Like avocado or coconut oil? But if he seems fine to you I don't think I would stress.

@Sams Mom: FYI for what it’s worth my ped said they expect a height difference because they go from laying down to standing up measuring, at least at my office. So she wasn’t concerned about it, obviously that might not apply for OP

@gotkimchi: That is true, and getting a height on a baby or toddler isn't an easy feat.

I think at this point I would just focus on bulking up his current diet with lots of good fat, ie. avocados, full fat dairy, etc.

@Purpledaisy: when my LO was being a very picky eater I asked his pediatrician about pediasure and he was very against it because of how much sugar is in it

My son is 1% for weight still at age 5 (34lbs) and we were prescribed pediasure at age 1 I think! He had reflux and the pediasure made him puke. We didn’t do it for very long. Instead I bought whole milk powder and added that to his milk to increase the calories.
FWIW I worried about his weight for years and battled adding calories but preventing constipation...he’s totally normal and growing and doesn’t appear smaller than his friends (just skinnier). It has been hard to buy pants though! Especially ages 2-4... my son has consistently been 15% in height... and he was a 25-Weeker.
