Just wanted to start a post to discuss what small things we can do individually, and what larger things we can do as a country to help prevent another situation like what is happening in Ferguson.

I think body cameras on police officers would help tremendously. Of course there are issues - data storage, privacy rights, etc. but I think the benefits far outweigh the negatives. I think it would encourage best practices by police officers and would also protect them by providing an actual account of what occurs.

I think people have to examine their own biases closely when reacting to news. I think Facebook and other social media fuels the sensationalism. This is a complicated issue with lots of nuance, history, and emotion. Short quips do nothing to further the discussion.

I also think all of the media sites are covering this story as entertainment, not news.

So let's discuss. What are your thoughts?
