My 2 year old is sick with a stomach bug and I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up her bed for sleeping. I was thinking a huge towel over her pillow and bed for easy puke clean up. She doesn't know how to puke in a bucket yet so I'm trying to think of how to keep my life easy in the middle of the night. Any tips?

This is unconventional, but last time I was in this situation, my sick 2 YO slept in bed with me (on towels and with a small trash can on top of the bed between us). She has a distinctive cough before puking. It gave me enough time to grab the trash can or run her to the bathroom.
It's not for everyone, but it worked for us. It was much easier than sleeping on her floor or running back and forth to her room.

I put down a towel but I also sleep with dd when she's sick and keep a towel handy...@Bluebonnet:same...dd gives a little warning, whether it's whining or coughing so it gives me enough time to react and "catch" it.

We usually co-sleep when they're sick because they will start to thrash and I can grab the puke bucket before it happens (usually).

We brought our son into our bed last time and laid down layers of blankets below him. We just peeled up a layer and threw it in the wash every time he got sick.

When we had it last year my lo was not quite 2 and it worked best to stay in bed with him with the bucket right there. He slept better too having someone to snuggle.

We had it last week and I just kept washing fitted sheets, using towels as underlays, and put a towel on the floor next to the cot. I was able to hear him on the monitor when he stirred, and grab a bucket in time after the first couple of days though.

Same - our bed. I take off any bedding/throw pillows/etc that are expensive or hard to wash and toss them in my closet, and keep a basin between us. Generally I hear the telltale signs and can catch the puke.

Usually I'll just sleep with DS in the guest room with towels and a bowl. He has a certain cough and I can usually catch it if I'm there.

@Bao: Everyone has had some amazing suggestions! This what we do.
I buy a couple of large plastic table cloths from the dollar store and put them over her mattress protector as an extra layer of protection and put a fitted sheet over that. I also put a towel over her pillow
Then I just leave a comforter on her and I sleep in the bed with her (same as @bluebonnet ) with the basin near me. She does a weird cough-cry right before she throws up.

We layer an absorbent mattress protector and sheet 2x and then throw a beach towel on top and underneath the bed. That usually gets us through the night (or 3 pukes) and saves us from having to clean puke off of the floor.

@erinbaderin: no puking! She's still unwell but I gave her anti nausea that the dr gave us so I think that helped!

I had a waterproof mattress protector with two layers of towels on top and towels on the floor next to his bed. It was so bad that next time I might lay a shower curtain liner on the floor next to his bed under the towels too!
