I just went back to work this week and am pumping three times in the 10 hours I'm away from DD - 9:30, 12:30 and 3:30. (I nurse her at 6:30am, 6:30pm and bedtime.) At the first pump, I have been getting around 9-10oz but then at the next two pumps, I struggle to get 4-5oz. It's more than enough to cover her day care needs at this point, but is that normal for output to decrease so dramatically over the course of the day? It worries me that she might not be getting enough at her nighttime nursing sessions.

Normal. As the day goes on, milk gets fattier. It has the same nutrient content, but is more filling!

Sounds normal to me. I definitely get more during my first pump of the day.

Yes, my first pump of the day always gave me almost double of what I got throughout the rest of the day

@AmandaB8: Ah, interesting. Thanks! Does that mean I should be using milk from each session to fill her bottles for the next day? I've just been using the first 15oz I get and freezing the rest.

@SeptMomma12: I don't think it matters either way, TBH. She gets extra fatty milk from you in the evenings anyway. Don't stress about it!

Totally normal! Plus if you go longer overnight before that first feed, she may not be emptying your breasts and so you'll have extra for that first session.

Yes. I always got the most first thing in the morning and less as the day went on.
