You are supposed to tip on the original value of the groupon. $350 for a keratin/cut/style seems standard for my area (depending on hair length) but I'm not sure where you live.

I'm a standard single process/cut which runs about $150/$160 in my area so i typically tip $30. So yeah in your case I'd have to say I'd tip 60/70. The salon is offering the deal but the stylist is still doing $350 worth of work....

@StrawberryBee: sometimes places do have a separate shampoo person and yes I toss them $5. I'd say 20% is standard but not if you don't have a good experience! Then gauge accordingly.

Oh yes and I was sort of thinking out loud in that first paragraph. I feel like sometimes places inflate that groupon "original" price to make it look like you're saving more. So I checked to see if that looks like a "standard" price for keratin.

@StrawberryBee: have you checked their price list? I would just verify the cost listed on groupon is accurate (I find often they're not) and then tip ~20% of whatever the salon has listed as their current price for the service.

@oliviaoblivia: keratin treatments are amazing. I have curly/wavy hair that goes to a bad, bad place in the summer and keratin makes my hair wash and go for like 4 months (but you have to use a special shampoo and conditioner).

To the OP - 20 percent of original price and $5 to the shampoo person. Definitely pricey, but the treatment is worth it in my opinion.

@oliviaoblivia: I did it in late June last year I think. If Iet my hair air dry, I ended up with beachy waves that never got frizzy, and if I did blow dry my hair, it took so much less time and effort and stayed smooth until the next wash. I sound like such a spokesperson right now, but I swear I will do it every summer. There are different keratin treatments though - I did the nano keratin. It was pretty quick and there were no fumes.

I usually go to a very nice salon and I tip 20%. Sometimes my stylist washes my hair, sometimes she has someone else do it if she's busy. I've never tipped the hair washing person separately, and I've never seen anyone at the salon go over and give people cash or anything. I figure it's up to my stylist, kind of like how waitstaff will give part of their tips to the bussing staff at restaurants.

In this case I'd tip maybe $50. Considering the groupon may have an inflated price. Plus, I think it's not uncommon to tip closer to 15% when the services get pricey.

@Madison43: I've heard it's really annoying for a couple days afterwards because you can't tuck your hair behind your ears, can't put sunglasses in it, etc. Did you have that kind of trouble?

@ShootingStar: yes, my husband made fun of me endlessly because of how sad my hair looked for a few days! It is annoying, but worth it in the end.

@StrawberryBee: I agree to check the price on the website, not on Grupon. Sometimes the value is inflated. Also remember 20% is for top notch service, use your best discretion.

At least 20 percent. I'm in kind of a pricey area but my hair lady is cheap. I get a cut and partial highlights about 5x a year. My lady charges $80 and I usually give her $20 for an even $100.
