"Hair Down There" L&D?

Ummm... did I catch your attention with my title?

Sooo... I am NOT a fan of shaving "down there" because my skin is super sensitive. I'm a Brazilian-Wax kind of gal and consciously going to go in for more waxes the closer I get to our due date so hopefully I'll be pretty hairless when I deliver.
My question for the ladies who have already given birth, do they shave you down in L&D regardless of how much hair you had down there? Or if you just had a little stubble or whatnot, did they leave it? hahaha...I know...super important stuff!

They only touch your hair down there if you have a c- section...

I think they only shave you if you have high pubes and if you need a C-section? Lol. I had a C-section and they did not shave me!

I had a brazillian done at 35+4, then again at 40+3, I'm with ya! I'm sure no one else cared, but it was nice to have one less thing to think about

I did not get shaved during L&D. I don't shave or wax, but keep a very close trim using electric clippers, but the last month or two of my pregnancy I sort of developed an "eff it" attitude about upkeep. DH offered to do it for me, but that made me really nervous, lol.

Anyway, point is, it was much more...overgrown...when I delivered than usual, and they left it alone...although omg when I think that my MIL was down at my feet I wish they had shaved it, lol.

I thought I trimmed it but actually couldn't see.

they didn't do anything, and TBH, no one cared. hah, including me. that said, if you get stitches they are itchy/painful enough WITHOUT dealing with ingrown hairs and stubble. just sayin'!

I let it go. They have seen SO MANY different bodies and things....I figured no one would care. They're not looking at that, they're looking at the baby's head. Serious. And - no reason to shave you. It's not in the way (for a vaginal birth, at least).

Honestly I tried to trim but kinda gave up closer to. I didn't think twice about it during delivery.

Oh also, I had a full on 1970s growth down there at the time of delivery. I meant to get a wax before hand but ran out of time. My midwife was super crunchy and I don't think it offended her and I didn't even think about it once ; )

I cleaned everything up about a week before I was induced, although that was just luck, because I didn't know I was being induced(!).

@SorryCharlie: I had just a little bit of regrowth when I delivered, so I got to avoid any itchies.

@WinnieBee: I didn't give it any thought, either. I can't remember a single *oh I am so glad I shaved* thought. I only remember having the *gee I am so glad I didn't cancel my hair appointment* thoughts (I had my highlights freshened up the day before I was induced).

Yeah, I haven't touched that area in about a month. I was at least trimming, but even that has gotten too difficult. The OBs will just have to deal with it. I'm sure they've seen the same if not worse.

Oh THANKS Ladies! IDK I was under the impression that all women get shaved down during L&D? And only for a C-section? Is that how LOW they cut to get the baby out? whoa! Obviously someone hasn't studied up on all this stuff! lol!

@Beebug: Yeah, I don't care about what the Dr.'s or nurses think, it's more for myself! I was just scared of having someone shave me!
@FutureMrsMcK: You are brave! No way would I let my MIL see me down there regardless! hahaha! And my GF told me she would have her DH shave her after like 7 months!
@sorrycharlie: Ugh! I cannot imagine! Itch & pain from stitches AND itchy stubble re-growth or ingrowns? Eww! This totally reinforces my must wax often thinking!

@shopaholic: It totally wasn't planned! After I got my epidural I sent MIL a text saying they could come visit...and they just ended up staying for the whole thing! I was drugged up enough after the epi that I didn't care, and then when it stopped working I was too focused on the back contractions to even really be aware of anyone or anything else (except DH. I focused on him a lot). But thinking back on it, man, I wish I was cleaned up more!

@MsLipGloss: Haha I was totally showing off my last minute pedicure to the nurses!

They didn't shave me down there. I didn't have a c-section though. However, I was pretty cleaned up. At the time though, I didn't care what I had going on down there lol.

@shopaholic: I was induced and went against the bed rest orders a few days before to get a mani/pedi and gave myself a wax. I'm really good at it! I know it really doesn't matter but for me I felt much better going in that way. It worked out great for me because my episiotomy required a million stitches (down to the muscle!) so I wasn't able to ladyscape for a really long time afterwards.

side note: DH made fun of me for getting my nails done, saying that no one would notice. When the nurse handed me DS, she said, "oh how pretty! you got your nails done!" and I just smiled at DH, hahaha

Lady, there is so much other stuff going on during labor and delivery, your pubic hair will be the last thing on your mind. I didn't think about it one single time while in the hospital (even though I worried about it beforehand)

They shaved me becuase I had a c-section. if not they leave the hair alone

haha i totally have my brazilians timed out so that i'll go in about a week and a half before i'm due. Just enough time for the sensitivity to go away and stuff. Plus, i find things are easier to clean/see in general if things are freshly waxed. And the idea of stubble is just yuck. My skin is also sensitive

I shaved throughout pregnancy, but apparently did a pretty bad job at it because, after I had her, I had a big patch of really long down there. They didn't touch it.

Kudos to you for getting waxed! Just a note though... if you shave using conditioner, it helps to keep the bumps away.

I've been keeping mine trimmed really short (DH helps because I sure can't see it!) because I feel like it's easier to stay fresh when there's not lots of hair going on. I think that after the birth when there's all kinds of gunk coming out of me, I'll feel less gross and more fresh if it's as trimmed as possible (but I don't plan to be clean-shaven and I'm terrified of waxing).

It's no longer considered routine at all for them to shave you. Our hospital doesn't do it.

my situation was completely unruly by the time she came. I was so over it all I just didn't care it didn't matter no one, noticed no one said anything I just let it go.

I've given up . I can't really reach or see and I hate it ! I usually just trim - so I am never completely bare but its the longest it has been in a loooong time.

They only came in with clippers at the very last minute for the (emergency) c-section... which they cut extremely low. Like even if I was up on my usual they would have needed those clippers. I don't know anyone else with such a low c-section.

@pastemoo: the exact same happened to me. I was suprised at how low the cut was, maybe it was because B was already crowning and they had to pull him back out.

super embarassing btw to have your pubes shaved in front of your mother!

Wow maybe I'm the weird one, but I try NOT to trim too much before OBGYN appointments. I never fully shave anything (besides landscaping the bikini area). I don't plan on changing it up at all for L&D either. They hospital staff would never comment on your hair situation down there in a judgmental way, they've seen it all. If they need to shave something when I'm there, have at it, haha.

I've worked in l&d and believe me, we have seen it all. And I mean, it all. I plan to not even worry about it

@shopaholic: I had a brazilian done the month I gave birth, and I plan to do the same again so I don't know the answer to this question. I had no idea they shaved people - I would feel so violated, lol!

ummm am I the only one who has NEVER heard of them shaving/clipping during L&D?!?! I saw her question and I was like wth - girl they don't even do that hahaha!

I was still shaving in my final weeks though lol. It was the months following L&D I was too scared to go down there!

@smocks: @Mrs. Pen: Haha! IDK where I thought I had heard that they shave you down there for L&D! I always thought that since I was little!

Honestly, I don't care one bit about the hospital staff/Dr. seeing hair down there. The question was more because of my skin sensitivity to shaving and me not wanting them to shave me. Good to know that they DON'T do this though! LOL!
