I need to rethink our strategy now that toys are getting bigger!

The easiest way before was 3 under the bed totes in her room. They fit a fair amount of random odd/end toys. We also had smaller square size totes that held sets of things (play food in a box, Mr. Potato head together, etc).

In our play room we have two sets of the Ikea Kallax cubes. So we have 16 large cubbies. Some of those are used for books and then we rotate what else goes in the other cubbies/bins.

Our problem is the larger items like the work bench, race car track, Cozy Coupe car, Block Sets, doll beds, doll house, etc. I would like to rotate all these out/around but they are much harder to store/stash somewhere until later in the year.

I've decided to hide large toys in our master closet (behind the clothes!) or coat closet (he doesn't look here often) and if he finds them, we'll break one out and move another toy into storage overnight

I gave up and put EVERYTHING in a huge PAX wardrobe (from IKEA) in the playroom. I found that when I stored toys in closets/the basement, I just wasn't willing to spend the time and energy to trek down and pull them out. Pretty much all that is out is:

1) Play kitchen (with some food items/utensils/appliances in or on it; others in the "kitchen drawer" in the wardrobe)

2) Easel with washable markers and paper (other art supplies are sorted in bins in the wardrobe and only come out with my approval)

3) Train table (with tracks stored underneath), which doubles as a puzzle table or block building surface when I flip over the base to solid wood

4) Dress up trunk

5) Bookshelf of books, with one basket of baby toys

EVERYTHING else is in the wardrobe. I can alternate which side of the wardrobe we open up, and I can shift which shelf I put things on when we tidy up, so that different toys are more accessible....likewise, I can put things that are out of season or aren't age appropriate, or toys I save for the car, etc., on a high shelf.

The wardrobe has a combination of drawers and shelves; I repurposed it from previously being my DDs' closet, so I still need to replace some bars with more shelves.
