We are changing things up this year and going a Secret Santa. I'm excited because it is more budget friendly and will be fun. Our gifts should technically work for both genders, so give me your best gift ideas!

Essentially everyone brings a gift, each gift is assigned a number, and then people draw numbers. When it's your turn, if you like a gift that someone already opened, you can "steal" that gift and they draw a new number.
I'm probably not explaining it well but it's fun!

@Ra: never heard it called that! We call it Dirty Santa or White Elephant.
Wine/cheese basket. Lottery tickets. Candles. Coffee mug with Starbucks gift card. Throw/blanket.

the one year i brought a $20 crockpot, it was a huge hit and everyone wanted it. i think kitchen and home appliances tend to be huge hits - even if they aren't expensive they seem to make a good impression.

@Mrs. High Heels: Those are great ideas! I would've never thought of that, but would love to get any of those. I think a waffle iron or ice cream maker would be fun too. Those are things people would like to have, but they're frivolous, so a lot of people just don't buy for themselves.

I attended a secret gift exchange at work last year and we did it like @Ra:. A gift could only be stolen twice.
The big hits (stolen gifts) were specific brands of liquor or wine, cheese board tray, beverage dispenser (this is what I got), and gift cards. I gave a pop corn maker & starter pop corn pack with seasoning mix.
other ideas:
Margarita maker/ snow cone maker
DVD pack of a great show/ movie- Batman trilogy.
Edible paint (adults-only Secret Santa)
Holiday linens/ home goods- tea towels, serving platter etc.
anything on the As Seen on TV aisle
