After a year in our house, I'm finally replacing a kitchen window treatment (draped tapestry valances with beaded fringe) that is not at all my style! I have no idea what is "in" these days, so I'd love to see what everyone has in their kitchen for window treatments 
It's a large window (3 panes) over the sink, framed by cabinets on either side.

I just have a bare window above my sink. I feel like the cabinets frame it enough that it doesn't need treatments.

In general I’ve avoided window treatments in our house because we have pella windows with blinds built into the glass and they look nice as is.

We don’t have anything but I was going to say something like what @Shantuck: said.
Our over the sink doesn’t really need anything (it’s got that kind of dated wood curvy piece between the cabinets on either side). But we have a big beautiful bay window behind the table with a pretty view of the backyard. The only problem is it faces straight east so at a certain point in the early morning the sun glares directly in my eyes. So I need to get something there and am thinking those bamboo shades.

@Shantuck: You've inspired me to use some fabric that I have to do a DIY faux roman valance! I have a double window in the kitchen and I cobbled together a solution that I don't love, but now, I can replace it with the valance and a set of vinyl plantation shutters on the lower half.

@looch: I wish I was crafty! I just picked out some fabric, measured my window, and then ordered the roman shade on etsy. Post a pic when you are done! I'll post a pic when I get mine but it's going to be a few weeks...

@Foodnerd81: You can take that curvy piece off if you hate it.
I have faux roman shades on both of my kitchen windows. I sewed them myself several years ago and hung them from a tension rod instead of stapling them to scrap wood. I wish I had lined them but I didn't know how to do that at the time. For my next kitchen I'm excited to sew different ones.

I wanted privacy on the bottom half of our window, since our neighbor's house is very close, but I couldn't find cafe curtains that didn't look like someone's grandma's house. So I found this idea on the internet to use dinner napkins with a tension rod and drapery clips. Mine look a lot like this picture, except they are a different color.

@Foodnerd81: yep, just like that, except I prefer an inside mount so I have them hanging on tension rods. I also sewed my pleats in place (which I wouldn't do again but I don't hate it enough to change it).

@avivoca: I definitely like the tension rod idea. We have ikea Roman blinds in our playroom with tension rods and it’s defintely easy and looks nice.
