I know this topic has been touched on before, but if you go to a social gathering where there is alcohol in early pregnancy & you do not want people to know yet, what do you say? Tomorrow DH & I are going to an event where there will be cocktails & I know that some of our friends love to buy rounds.... 
I have no trouble just ordering a water or lemonade but if someone tries to buy you a drink, what do you say? I have been considering saying I am on antibiotics or feeling sick...!?

I'm not a big drinker, so it wasn't a big deal to me. I would just say I had a headache. Or I've heard people say they're on a diet.

Honestly I sucked at this... and this is why a lot of people know I'm pregnant before I really wanted them to. I will pretty much always have a drink in social situations, no matter if I'm on meds, sick, or walking out the door to the gym! So none of my excuses worked and everyone figured me out. And I'm not comfortable saying no when someone flat out asks me if I'm pregnant so I gave up the info. So I've got no good advice!!

@MamaMoose: haha I hear you! I don't always drink, I am actually not really a big drinker, but if someone offers me a drink I usually always get something, so I feel like if I say no they'll be like "ohhhh are you guys pregnant?!!?!" :X agh! Wish me luck!

In the beginning, I just said that the alcohol conflicted with my migraine meds. But, if I didn't think I could pull that off, I would just ask for something--like cranberry juice-- in a short glass so that it looked like a drink, with the idea being to mimic the drink's look without having the alcohol. Then again, there is always being the DD for your DH.

I used to order "vodka sodas" ie, just a club soda w/ lime and no one suspected. Or, you could just ask them to order you a bottle of beer (one w/ a dark glass) and then go to the bathroom with it and dump it out/fill it with water ; )

@MsLipGloss: I did that with my first @ a friends wedding because we didn't want anyone to know yet but this time around I am worried they'll want to "treat" me to a drink...ba! I may have to sneak it to DH!
@winniebee: that's a good idea! I haven't been to the place we are going before to scope it out, but I might try that

I agree with Mslipgloss. I always get sprite with lime in short glass (looks like gin and tonic). Also find the female bartender and tell her what u are hiding, that u will order regular drinks but would like her to make them alcohol free.

@Ms.SK: ohhhh! That isn't a bad idea. I'd be so nervous though, like what if they ordered a round of the same drinks!! haha somebody else wouldn't get their moneys worth & I'd be in trouble

I dont drink alcohol, so maybe thats why I dont get it, but I think a person should be able to say "no alcohol for me today" without having to explain why or lie about it.

@Mrsbells: Oh I agree!! But the people we will be going with like to treat & know that I do typically have a drink when they treat, so I am sure they would find it a bit odd. I don't think I will be very good @ lying about it, but I prefer that over telling that I'm pregnant when I am only 4.5 weeks & we haven't yet told our families

I would dump a beer out in the bathroom and fill it up with water. Anytime someone was buying a round of liquor or beer, I would say pass I'm sticking to beer tonight or I still have some left...worked like a charm and no one suspected! When you notice the next round is coming up, shoot for the bathroom so you are skipped!

I'm not usually a drinker so it was no big deal for me to refuse drinks at social gatherings.

I either accepted the drink and then gave it to DH on the sly, or made sure I always had a "drink" (aka club soda).

The only way I'd be under the radar is to just take the drink and have Mr. Jacks drink it. People only notice if you refuse the drink... not what you do after you get it. I fooled people for 20 weeks, so it can be done!

I usually went with headache, or got a drink and carried it around. Like everyone said, if you refuse it you will attract more attention.

I predict this is going to be a problem for me. I'll probably try ordering a diet coke from the bartender in a short glass, with a lime wedge. Most of our friends aren't married, and they're already speculating like crazy when we'll get pregnant, so I know they'll notice if I were to go to a social event and not drink anything.

@banana: headache seems believable & I wouldn't push it if someone said that but I think some people might go "ooooh are you pregnant?!" agh!
