How much parental leave or vacation time did your SO take off after LO was born? Did SO take more or less than they were allocated by work?
DH took 4 days last week (I was induced on Tuesday) and has been working today. He's lucky and gets 4 weeks of paid parental leave, but I'd be surprised if he uses it all.

DH formally gets 4 weeks PTO for paternity leave but he didn't take it all, as it's frowned upon. He took about 2 weeks with both children and then came home early or took random days off for the next few weeks.

He took one week vacation since I had bad tearing and needed help. He hoped to just take a couple because of how busy he was with work.
He then took his 5 week parental leave a few months later.

When we had our girls he had to just use his vacation. Of course now they offer 6 weeks paid.

He took a week of vacation and sick time. It was nice to have him around, but he ended up using advance sick leave and wasn't able to help out once she started daycare.

DH didn't get paternity leave but he took a week off work. He also adjusted his schedule so he could go in late to work for probably 3 weeks and do daycare drop off and pick up for E, which was what i was concerned about. Honestly, I didn't need any help with T so it was nice to sit around and hog the tv all day

Just a week, it wasn't enough. I had a fairly long hospital stay- 5 days so we didn't have enough time to get settled in at home before he was back to work. I needed more support and he was miserable.

He got a paltry 3 days of actual paternal leave which didn't even cover my hospital stay (I was induced on a Monday night, baby born Wed am, went home Friday). He took about 2 weeks of vacation on top of that.

Mine was offered 6 weeks and took 1 week. He claimed he wanted to save the time in case we needed sick leave after I went back to work. His intentions were good and I didn't argue at the time, but in hindsight we should have taken it because of course it all went to waste and I could have used the extra hands.

DH gets 6 weeks of paid parental leave and he'll take all of it. His manager was a little surprised 1) that it was a benefit the company offered, and 2) that he would actually take it. I totally encourage it!
I, on the other hand, get no paid maternity leave. STD, PTO, and unpaid time

Um, none? My husband is a college professor and so when its during the semester, there's not much he can do. All through my first pregnancy, he used to have chats with the baby, telling him he was allowed to come between Thursday night and Monday night. Hilariously, my water broke on a Thursday night as my husband got home. Unfortunately, DS had to be in NICU so my husband left us to teach class the following Tuesday and then came back to bring us home on Wednesday. My husband also runs his own law practice on the side, so he was taking client calls the entire time we were in the hospital. We randomly got the negative pressure room, which had an anti-chamber attached, so my husband used it as a home office the 6 days we were there!

He can use 6 to 8 weeks of Sick leave. The timeframe depends on how I give birth. The sick leave is used concurrently with my maternity leave. He can take any amount of Annual leave he wants for bonding time.
At one point he was gung-ho about taking 6 weeks off and caring for the baby alone. But now it doesn't matter if he's off if I'm going to be there too and presumably a grandparent to help.

LO was born in early December, so he managed to take most of December off using leave time and vacation. He worked from home maybe 3-4 days during that time. It was great to have him home that long!

With LO1, he took 4 days off. He's a teacher, so he went back to work for a week, then off for 5 days for Thanksgiving, then back to work for 3 weeks, then off 2 weeks for Christmas. It ended up being about 3.5 weeks off during LO's first 7 weeks.
LO2 was born the beginning of August, so he got 2 full weeks home before starting back.

He gets 3 days paid leave, and had earned vacation time he could opt to take, but he only took the 3 days (butted onto a weekend). My mom was staying with us and we decided it would be better for him to save his time until after she left. My mom lives with us now, but this time he has a lot more paid time off and she's due around Christmas, so he'll be taking 2 weeks off, I think.

DH took two unpaid days with our second. Our first was about the same. I was hospitalized for weeks so he worked as much as he could and took off for the three days I was in labor.

With C he took I think five days paternity leave, then left early and took long weekends here and there for several weeks after. (pTO)
This time since I'm due right before Christmas he will take his five paternity leave days then use vacation time for the holidays and through the new year, depending when she is actually born.

Lo1 he took 2 days off for my induction (his job was brand new so he didn't have vacation time)
Lo2 he took a week, I was hoping he'd get 2 weeks off but his boss really needed him back.

DH is taking off two weeks. It's unpaid except for any left over vacation time.

He can take up to 12 weeks unpaid through fmla. However he will only take 2 weeks, and use his sick days to get paid.

DH used his vacation time and took off 2 weeks. It helps that Christmas/New Years was around the so we got some extra down time there too.

He got three months of paid leave, since he works at a progressive technology company. I got 6 weeks at 60% pay via STD, then took 6 more weeks unpaid.

With DS, 1 week, but only because my MIL is badass and came and worked our shop for us so he could stay home.
With DD, he'll just have started earning PTO so I'm not sure, but I'm guessing a day or two at most probably unless she's born on a Friday, then I'm guessing he'll go to work on Monday.

Lo1- took 3 weeks, I cant remember if it was sick or vacation time.
Lo2- in the middle of taking almost 17 weeks! But he worked comp time for OT for about 2.5 years to save enough time and it includes next year's vacation hours (which renew Jan 1st.) eta and this past years vacation too.

He used 3 vacation days when she was born. Then when all our help left he took his paternity leave. He got 2 weeks paid.

DH was allowed up to 12 weeks because of FMLA ... It's unpaid. He ended up taking 5 weeks off (3 of which were unpaid). It was the perfect amount of time for us, and I'd REALLY like him to do it again next time, if possible.

@Mrs. Carrot: this is what makes me annoyed. He works his butt off and regularly loses vacation days each year simply from not using them. I hate the idea of leaving time on the table when it's part of the benefits that he works to receive!!

With the first he took a week and a half. But he only worked a day then I came down with a bad fever from mastitis so he took 2 more days off.
With our second he had a little over 3 weeks.

With our first, he had 3 weeks of vacation time saved up and got 2 weeks for parental leave, so he was home for 5 weeks, which was wonderful. I was a full time SAHM with that one.
With our second, he took somewhere between 1-2 weeks, then went back to work. I went back to work at 7 weeks, and my mom came to watch the baby for 3-4 weeks at a time and would go home for a week or two between stints. He took the rest of his parental and vacation time to cover those stints. The problem during that time wasn't his time off but mine-- I was freelancing so I had to take my maternity leave unpaid and took very little time off after I went back.

DH got 2 weeks of paid paternity leave (which he took all of). Half of that time we were in the hospital though!

My SO got 1 month and took it. It was fabulous and wish it could have been longer. However, his company changed policies and will allow 12 weeks starting in 2016. I, of course, work somewhere without any paid leave except for short term disability. My state does allow 14 weeks of FMLA though.

My husband is a SAHD. With LO1, we were home together for 13 weeks, and this time we'll be home together for 16 weeks. I feel really lucky about this!

Lo1: xdh took a weeks vacation.
Lo2: SO took a weeks vacation.
Lo3: he's applied for EI under the Critically Ill children's portion - which is up to 35 weeks - and will then take 5 weeks of paternity and whatever parental leave is left; I'm not taking any.

DH did not take official time off because he still didn't have tenure and it would be difficult to take time off because of teaching conflicts.
Luckily, both kids were born towards the end of the semester and so he was at home for about 1 month with a few trips to the office. He also had much shorter days for 2 months as well. It was just as good as taking official time off.

He took six weeks paid w ds1. He took 3 weeks paid w ds2 staggered every other week. He technically could've taken longer but can't with his responsibilities at his position now.

With our first LO he had 10 days paid leave and took a combo of leave and vacation for a total of 3 weeks.
With LO2, he had one month of paid leave and took it all.

My husband didn't get any parental leave, and had started a new job a few months before and wasn't eligible for vacation or sick pay. Baby was born on a Thursday, husband sadly had to go back the following Monday.
