I work full-time so I needed a double electric pump. I also needed to build up a freezer supply so I was using it well before I went back to work.

Even though I'm home with LO all the time... I had to pump only. She had a hard time getting comfortable latching on while she was on phototherapy for 5 days... so we went to bottle/ tried nursing a little and after those 5 days she wouldn' t latch on at all

I work so I need an electric, double pump. I try to pump 3-4 times a day for 20 minutes. I'm so fortunate to have a lactation room at my office. It has allowed me to still exclusively breast feed.

Some sort of pump is necessary. I had a double electric because I knew I was going back to work. But when I had blisters or bleeding I pumped that side and only fed the other side. It helped so much to reduce some of the pain. I recommend something for that only.

I was in school when I had my daughter so an electric breast pump was absolutely necessary. This time I will be a SAHM so I will I will probably just get a manual one for just in case.

@ megwag: As long as you don't have supply issues, you will probably be fine with a manual. I'm in pretty much the same situation and it's fine. It's nice to be able to pump on the couch, in the car, etc.

I had an electric pump but not the dual kind. The dual one was too pricey for my budget. It helped alot and glad I had one.

I wanted to get a pump before giving birth but the hubs convinced me to wait. We ultimately had to rent one from the hospital until we were able to find and buy one that we liked. I don't use mine anymore (and haven't in about 1.5 months) but the first three months of LO's life, I couldn't have survived without it.

I work full time, so a high quality double-electric pump is one of the most important baby items for me to purchase. My mom actually already bought it for me for Xmas, even though my due date isn't for another 3 months. I would like to start getting practice with the pump as soon as I get the hang of breast feeding... also, it will be nice for DH to feed baby from a bottle early on.
