What do you have under your high chair? With my first I had a cheap vinyl table cloth that was ok but when I wiped it the color came up. Wondering if the actual splat mats actually make it easier to clean? Or do you just wash your floors way more often than me?

My mom made me a splat mat out of plastic lined material (think picnic tableloth) that she just cut with pinking shears. I can wipe it or throw it in the wash if it gets super yucky. I've had it for over a year and it's still in fairly good condition but we don't use it all the time- maybe a couple times a week when DD eats a super messy dinner or for a painting project.

@caterw: that's what I meant to get but my cheapo table cloth isn't washable. I should hit up a fabric store.

My sister handed down two to us and they're awesome. Already on their third baby and still look brand new. I throw mine in the washing machine and let them air dry.

@youboots: we had a dog when my first was learning to eat- he got so picky he would only come clean up the good stuff, like cheese, and ignore things like Cheerios or peas. Mr. Fancy pants.

We have a dog that will eat practically anything. It drove me nuts when we were at my parents' and their dog wouldn't eat the cheerios and I had to pick up all those little suckers myself!

@BabyTsMom: We also have a Sugarbooger splat mat and it's awesome! After we moved it out from underneath the high chair, we started using it in the living room for things like play doh, kinetic sand, painting, letting LO have *picnics*, etc. We just had our second LO, so I will order a second so we can have one in the living room and one permanently under the high chair.

I contemplated just putting down something, but my dog usually cleans it up and we mop frequently.
