@sandy: You look awesome! Have fun with the weights. I much prefer lifting to cardio, too but I have found that 17 minutes in is my cardio sweet spot. Where I stop dreading it and wanting to stop every second. I can usually make it to the full 30 minutes if I just get past the 17 minute hump!

I took my measurements for the first time since September. I have lost 2 inches on my waist and butt and 3 inches on my bust (but haven't lost much of the boob...but my band size has gone from a 38/36 to a 34). Feeling happy about that! I need to rearrange my gym schedule though because I don't have time to do it all. I may change my off day to Tuesday instead of Sunday so that I can go to the laundromat

    A small update:
    - I've lost 1.5 inches from my waist
    - My bra size has gone from a 40DD to a 38D
    - My brand new size 12 pants keep falling down my hips, but I'm not quite small enough for a 10 to not be too tight.
    - I'm trying the Galloway run-walk-run method and it's helping me to get faster and run more. I do a 4 min/1 min run/walk ratio and it works pretty well for me.
    - I've gained 5 pounds, but I'm losing inches so it must be muscle.

@sandy: oh my gosh!!! You look soooo incredible!!!! Good work lady!
Also I feel the same way about weights- I don't stare down the clock, but focus on each set- and much prefer it to cardio. My heart rate still goes up just as much as cardio.

@bpcmarj: @Mrs. Pen: so I've officially bought into the whole strength training is better for weight loss! I'm down another pound - that a total of 2.5 lbs lost in the last 2 weeks since I've started doing weights instead of cardio.

@Mamaof2: thank you! I'll write a more detailed response when I'm not on my phone but basically I work out every night after LO goes to bed. I had only been doing 3 days a week but doing it everyday had made a big difference

I do 15 minutes of elliptical everyday to start my work out. Then I work on two muscle groups then do a different pair of muscle groups the next day etc.

My husband helped me put together an easy beginner weight routine. I don't even know if these are the right terms for the exercises but you can google YouTube videos of different weight exercises for different muscle groups

basically my husband explained to me you need to do the max weight to get the full benefit. Not meaning that you should be struggling the whole time but where it's hard to do the weight exercise but you can still have control and do it appopriately. People don't get the full benefit of weights bc they do weights that are too light. I only do 3 sets of 10 reps of each exercise. my husband said the last few of your reps should be really hard where you have to really push yourself...like it feels impossible but you have to push through to do it. Then you rest and start the next set

Day 1 - triceps and chest. I do triceps extension and chest press exercises

Day 2 - back and biceps. Curls, lat pull down and seated row

Day 3 - shoulders and legs. Shoulder raises, military press, shrugs, and leg press

    Repeat

I am down the weight that I was before we went to Turks. So now that I relost that weight, thanks new scale, I really need to get busy. 14.5 left then I will see how I am feeling and I might go for another 10. It seems so much, so right now I am going to focus on first 5 so I drop out of the 100 number I am in right now.

I will say that I freaking hate hills. So much easier when DH is home and I can go myself, and I enjoy it more. But I am sticking with it. I am also doing a little black dress 30 day challenge. Yesterday was bridges, squats and lunges. I like it so far.

@sandy: YES!!!! It totally is! Weights are amazing for weight loss!

I miss lifting! And working out. I'll hopefully be joining you all in 6 weeks!

@Smurfette: small goals for sure! Stay motivated, you're doing awesome

@blackbird: Thanks! I will say that I am feeling so much better about myself.

Oh and I fit in my pre-pregnancy shorts yesterday! Also I tried on a honeymoon dress last night and it fits. It doesn't look as good, due to my hips being bigger, but I would still be able to wear it out!

    @Smurfette: your progress is fabulous!

re: weights- I love 'em. I love feeling strong, I feel healthier and have more energy and less soreness. I only do weights twice a week, which makes for slow progress, but I love when I see how much I can lift now vs. when I started. Very motivating. I don't listen to music or anything, it is kind of meditative for me.

  21. sandy

    cantaloupe / 6687 posts

@Smurfette: that's so awesome you can wear pre baby shorts and a honeymoon dress! That is just amazing! I think that's so true that you can't focus on the big number to lose or its so discouraging - so just focusing on the small incremental weight loss is much easier. But even losing 3 lbs is so hard! I've lost 21 lbs since January but it felt like forever bc I was only losing an average of 4 lbs a month...so but steady is my only option. I have 6.5 lbs to prepregnancy weight and that's my first big goal. Then ideally I would want to lose 5 more lbs after that but I can't think about that - baby steps!

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@sandy: 21lbs is amazing!! I tried on a dress last night that I haven't worn since pre baby and it fits! So I am wearing it tonight for a rehearsal dinner since the one I was planning on wearing is a little big now!

@sandy: Thank you for posting those photos, you are seriously an inspiration! I have fallen off the wagon because my kids have been sick, and also was worried that my weight focused circuits would not help me lose weight like cardio would (and I HATE cardio), but its great to see you are getting such awesome results!

  26. sandy

    cantaloupe / 6687 posts

@HappyBaker: keep going! It's so hard to stay motivated. I know back in January I felt really discouraged and felt like I was just stuck. I lost the baby weight so easily with my first through BF that it's been a total shock having to try really hard to lose the weight this time. but even though it felt like the longest/slowest process ever, I'm so glad I stuck to working out and eating healthy bc finally 6 months PP I feel like I'm so close to my goal...but even these last 6.5 lbs will be hard to lose...we just have to keep going

@sandy: our fitness routines are similar and I swear by it! i change it up a bit by doing a little strength training before cardio and this really wakes my muscles up.

I had a quick session with a trainer at the gym this morning to get me set up in the system to use the weight machines. I am hoping this will help keep the weight loss going and also it will give me more options when I'm at the gym since right now I usually just go for classes.

We ran a 5k today! I ran a post-baby PR of 33:30, which is six minutes off of my pre-baby PR, while Daddy and H walked it in 48 minutes.

@avivoca: that is AMAZING progress!! I'm know it's a silly goal but I want to go down a band size and cup size. I'm currently a 38DD. When I got married I was a 34C and I thought it was the perfect size lol.

@sandy: that is AMAZING! So happy to hear it! Your routine sounds fantastic and similar to mine. My trainer likes to do total body workouts with me, though she isn't opposed to leg day, chest day, etc... She prefers to have me do three full body workouts, and two low-intensity days (biking, swimming, walking, etc). But I love weights. I was definitely reaching my fitness goals last summer when I commited to weights/body weight exercises.
@Smurfette: you are doing INCREDIBLE. Seriously. Do not get yourself down about daily weight changes - it is likely just water weight anyway. If you can, I would switch to a weekly weigh-in if I were you - that's what I do because I feel it's more accurate.
@blackbird: I'm SO excited for you to join us!!

@jhd: that's awesome! I was scared to start weights - so I went with a trainer and let the fitness specialists at the desk help me because I didn't want to injury myself and wanted to learn properly to get the most out of it. I'm SO glad I did.

Speaking of which. I decided to go with a trainer for the summer - and I was paired with one who I LOVE. I think she's going to be great for me - she is definitely into lifting and body weight for weight loss as opposed to cardio/running - which is good for me because I hate running. I wish I didn't, but I do. She's helping me plan out my whole week so I know what I need to do each week.

    So this is my plan:
    Friday (yesterday): Personal training day
Sat & Sun: off days/light stuff like walking, playing with J, etc
    Monday: body pump
    Tuesday: yoga
Wednesday: the workout she made for me on PT day
    Thursday: biking with J
    Friday: PT day

It will help me stay accountable to plan ahead each week with her so I know what to do and then I have her to answer to at the end of each week to make sure I did what I said I would do.

Okay, I think I left you guys somewhere around Page 3!!
I started a program 2 1/2 weeks ago that is very popular here in Australia, called the 12 Week Body Transformation...sounds gimicky I know but its actually really straightforward - eat less and move more. Its pretty cheap cause its all online, you get a meal plan and a workout plan every week, check in with people online, and basically just build up your willpower. I did two rounds prepregnancy, and lost over 10kg (25lbs or so) overall, but then, baby, mat leave, laziness, chocolate croissants, etc. In two and a half weeks since starting I've lost 4.8kg (about 11lbs) - its making me realise how truly awful my habits were before I started - i've never lost weight this quickly. I'm on 1200 cals a day but I always add in some fruit and 2 squares of dark chocolate every night (no way would it be sustainable otherwise), so I'm probably more at like a 1500. I don't track obsessively but I have stopped snacking except for at designated times. Its working so well and I finally feel like I have control again!! It's early days still but I feel more motivated than I have since my son was born. And I wore a dress this weekend that I hadn't worn since he was born May it continue!

Hi guys! I have been MIA! I briefly fell off the wagon but have really been doing well lately! FIL is loaning me his car (he works from home and rarely uses it) so I can go the gym every day. I have mostly been doing couch to 5k on the treadmill, but also did a yoga class, a Zumba class and some weights with DH. Also I'm back to tracking my food on myfitnesspal and really cleaned up my diet. I'm eating lots of cottage cheese and greek yogurt for protein, beans rice and veggies for dinner, etc. I have lost 7 pounds since May 4th, but have a long way to go still. I hate my belly pooch and still can't get my wedding rings on. I also hurt my knees running and have been resting for several days.
Tomorrow morning I meet with a personal trainer at the gym! (Free with membership).
Keep up the good work ladies!

I know I haven't been posting, but I've been following along and love everyone's progress updates. Motivates me to see you guys sticking with it.

Since my last post I purchased a BOB jogging stroller. Unfortunately my 8 month old lo is not a fan. I normally wear her in the tula, but recently she's done well in our regular stroller. I'm thinking the issue might be she can't see me....

    Any tips or tricks?

@jhd: yay!!! Hope the trainer helps you with starting up a good weights routine! I was so stuck with just cardio. I was 9.5lbs from prebaby weight and stuck...since starting weights a few weeks ago I'm now 5.5lbs from prebaby weight which feels so attainable right now!
