I've only gone on Metro North with my stroller, not NJT, but I imagine it would be much the same. Usually we just roll the stroller on board and I look for a spot right by the entrance and I park it forward facing. On an off peak train, there usually isn't any issue.

@Foodnerd81: DO you know if you'll have to transfer to the Path or if you'll go directly on NJ transit trains to Penn?

I think in Midday, leaving the stroller intact with baby in it is fine--I think *technically* the rule is that you fold it, but I see most babies still sitting in their stroller. The folding rule is probably only enforced if the train is crowded.

There are elevators at Penn station, but I haven't ever used one (I've never been on an NJ transit train, only PATH).

Maybe take a baby carrier just in case an elevator is not working? Then you can wear baby and fold the stroller and carry it up stairs/escalators?

I think you should be fine during the day. Do you have an umbrella stroller? Granted we live in Brooklyn, but LO doesn't go into the city very much. If we do, we mostly wear her. Is that an option? there are some subway stations with elevators. If you check the MTA map you can see which ones. You can either Google or check the map itself for the wheelchair accessible symbol.

If you're just going directly on the PATH to Penn Station and not taking any other subways lines and going midday, you'll be fine! There's definitely elevators at Penn Station and I doubt the train will be crowded...
I'd probably still wear baby tho, just for convenience and bring a big carryall bag for schlepping.
