We have been trying very hard to get baby to take a bottle and she just won't. We have tried Avent and Playtex bottles. My husband has tried the bottle. He tried it when I left the house. She just won't. She is now 12 weeks old and yes, it is probably our fault because she did take bottles around 6-8 weeks, but we haven't done it since then and now...nada, nope, won't do it. Any bottles you have found that work awesomely? I really need to get out of the house for longer than a 1.5 hour stretch, I am about to go crazy and I need some alone time. I am also starting to think I will never ever get to leave the house ever again without her and this is making me feel even worse. HELP.

We had this issue too, and she has had bottles multiple times a day every day since she was 3 weeks old (low supply so we supplement with formula). One day she just decide nope-- no more bottles! So don't blame yourself for not being consistent with them, it may have happened anyways. I'll say for us the one she likes best is tommy tipee. But in order to get her to take it again, I had to quit breastfeeding

R did better with TT bottles then any others. She still didn't prefer it, but she got use to it quick since she was at day care. We did a bottle boot camp the weekend before she started.
Try feeding her with a bottle before she is really hungry.

@ellewoods84: Did she ever take a bottle at one point (it sounds like from your post that she did)? Same thing happened with our LO. She was on a bottle strike for months...it was awful. And I was going back to work so I was really stressed that she'd starve while she was at daycare. She took Tommee Tippee bottles early on, but later refused them. I spent I don't even know how much money buying different bottles. The day I went back to work she took the Tommee Tippee bottles no problem.
I think the temperature had a lot to do with it--DH wasn't making them warm enough. But I also think she finally got hungry enough and knew it was either take it or starve. So if she's taken a bottle before, my suggestion is stick with that one, she will take it again. But you may have to leave the house for several hours before she's willing to take it. Good luck!!

We have this problem too -- he took a bottle for the first few weeks of his life with no problem and then bailed once he hit like six weeks or so. We've tried so many things to get him to take a bottle and it's been pretty useless. He screams and screams if my husband even offers one.
Weirdly enough, though, he reluctantly took a bottle from my parents when my husband and I were at a wedding. Apparently my dad had to stand up while feeding him so the baby could stare at a stained glass window while he ate. Whatever.
Anyway, not helpful, but I feel ya.

We used Tommee Tippee as well. We had a really similar phase-- she was fine with the bottle, then she refused the same bottle, and like you, I blamed myself for not being more consistent with it. I finally figured out that she did NOT want to be fed a bottle in anyone's arms- like you couldn't cradle her to give it to her, you had to put her in something like the rock and play or bouncer or car seat, so she was sitting on a bit of an incline, but not in your arms or lap. Once we figured that out, bam, no issues with bottles again, no matter the temp or who was giving it to her. I can't tell you how relieved I was figuring that out.
My other tip while you are figuring this out-- only put, like, 1 oz in the bottle are you are attempting to feed her. That way, if she refuses, you have only wasted 1 oz, instead of crying as you pour 3 oz down the drain.

We use the first years breastflow bottles and have had success with both LO's.

Our success came after introducing the bottle in a highly stimulating environment (sidewalk of a busy city street) when LO was distracted. Probably the same thing that was going on with the stained glass a PP mentioned. It was an Avent bottle but I'm not sure that mattered.

My first took one fine. Second is 5 months old and still won't. We did everything the same. Don't blame yourself- all kids are different. I hope your LO finds one she'll take!

are you there when she's getting a bottle? in the beginning, LO refused if she saw me first. so when we tried to do it again, i stayed out of the room/sight.

Try the Lanisoh mOmma! We tried lots of different bottles, including the frequently recommended TT and she refused! I was getting nervous because I was about to return to work. She took the mOmma, no problem. Was a lifesaver!

@ellewoods84: no advice, just sympathy because at 16 weeks were in the same boat, except she's NEVER taken one. We've tried everything and honestly I am so discouraged they we stopped trying which is probably the issue. I think we need to be more consistent in trying everyday, but it's so hard to go through the effort of pumping when she refuses.

We had a similar issue (he used it very young, then we quit and when we tried again, he refused). Turns out, I have high lipase in my breastmilk, and all stored milk older than 5 hours (even if frozen) tastes like soap and metal. So, before you buy a ton of bottles, make sure to taste your breastmilk to make sure it's ok. And make sure to taste stuff you'd stored for awhile (early on, I tasted it because I'd heard of this issue, but I checked stuff only a couple hours old. For some women, theirs will store a couple days before it goes "bad," for others just an hour or two.) Some babies tolerate milk that has high lipase content, and there's nothing wrong with it nutritionally, but...I sure wouldn't drink it.
My guy never did take the bottle, even once I treated the milk (you can boil before you store. Breaks down some nutrients, but is okay occasionally). Probably because I taught him to hate it early.

@Foodnerd81: good advice! yes, my husband is usually cradling her and she just out and out refuses. but, she doesn't even really like to be held cradled, so its quite likely she wouldn't like to be fed that way! going to have him put her in the bouncer and try.@birdofafeather: nope! always my husband giving it. I try to disappear. I have even left the house..but had to return because she was hungry!
@fussygal: it sucks, doesn't it! and I agree, it is a total hassle to pump and then just have her refuse. I don't have any sort of freezer stash or anything, I never pump, so to just pump and then have her refuse it and then it ends up getting thrown away because she won't drink it...really annoying.

@ellewoods84: If it was a weekday and she would be in day car, she got a bottle. I pumped and DH tried with a bottle. Couple times it took an hour but he would stop and try again in 10 mins. One time she even took the bottle from me. If you are doing it just so you can get a break, I would try every night having your husband give it to her, so she gets more exposure to it.

@ellewoods84: your situation sounds exactly like what happened to us. LO took a bottle very reluctantly around 6-8 weeks but we didn't do it regularly and eventually she just wouldn't take one at all. Playtex with liners were the only ones she ever took. At 4 months she received an avent sippy cup in her stocking, we tried it that day and never looked back! Maybe you can try a sippy in the near future?! Next child, I'll definitely try a bottle every day instead of being so lax about it!

We used mOmma in the beginning. We made sure to give one bottle a day just so that we knew she would take them when necessary.

If I were you and if your husbands tolerance level is high enough, I would plan to leave the house for a couple of hours so that she realizes at some point that if she wants to eat she needs to take it from the bottle. She won't starve and since she has taken them before, I don't think she is quite as resistant as she is letting one. Worst case you get your break out of the house and she gets fed when you get home and your husband is at his wits end. If you want to try a different bottle, I *love* comotomo.

@Smurfette: yeah, we haven't ever tried for an hour. mostly she just gets so hysterical, he kind of gives up after 20 minutes. luckily, I don't have to go back to work yet so it is mostly just so I can get a break. we will try! thanks for the suggestions.
@delight: she isn't too far off from 4 months...maybe she would take the sippy cup in the near future. hopefully. -
@ellewoods84: If she is due to eat at 5, try the bottle at 430/445. much easier before they are starving!

@ellewoods84: Have you thought about trying to give it to her when she's SUPER sleepy, like basically asleep.? I nurse to sleep 75% of the time and she always hits a point where her eyes are closed, she's mostly asleep, and she's just sucking away. Granted, I've never tried it, but I think that would be our best shot.

@ellewoods84: honestly my LO sucked back 4oz of BM no prob in sippy on first try. By 5 months she could hold and manipulate it on her own no prob. I know all kids are different but it was a life saver for us. Might be worth a shot!

The only bottle DD (20 weeks) will take is the Medela Calma, which thankfully came with my pump. I have been consistent since figuring it out and given her a bottle every day for 3 days! I'm going to have to go out and but a couple more nipples at $20 each but I guess that's the price of freedom! Good luck.
Oh also, I found giving her the milk really warm and before she gets too hungry is key.
