I would visit the National Park and do a circuit through the museums!

I also think a trip to DC isn't complete without walking past the White House.

There's a great waterpark in Georgetown down by the river. I can't wait for my son to be older and we can take him down there. I found this great site that talks about it in more detail:

As for stroller friendly - M Street in Georgetown has very narrow sidewalks. And they aren't smooth. So it might be a little rough if you're hanging out on M Street. But all metro stations have elevators. So look for those. And I agree with @sunshineandsushi - head down to the Mall and go to museums. I love the art museums - Hirshhorn, National Gallery, they both have nice outdoor sculpture gardens.

You can also go to the Building Museum. And the courtyard of the National Portrait Gallery is a nice space too. Both of these options are nice places to be able to bring a little something to eat and sit indoors.

Hopefully you're at the end of Georgetown close to Foggy Bottom...otherwise, you might want to walk across the Key Bridge into Virginia and take the Rosslyn metro.

Georgetown isn't exactly metro friendly, so you'll have to do some planning on that front. There are tons of free things to keep you busy the whole time you're here. I love the Smithsonians (keep in mind the dinosaur exhibits are closed for the next several years). The Newseum is my favorite paid museum. I love breakfast at Eastern Market on the weekends and the Playseum is nearby - good for kids.

Capitol Tours are super easy to get, White House tours are a huge pain and have to be planned quite a bit in advance

The zoo for sure! The DC zoo is amazeballs.

@My Only Sunshine: we've taken Chloe a bunch of times. The first was when she was 4/5 months old.

She loved the zoo, even at that age. So much to look at. The fish especially caught her attention. I personally loved the panda

We've done the museums with her. The last time was in December, so she was 26 months old. I was surprised how well her attention span was, even at 12 months of age.

There's so much to do in DC. It's hard to be bored there!

As a DC area native, it was hard to justify paying for admission to a museum in DC when so many of them are free, but the Newseum just blew my mind. I haven't been to the Spy museum, but I've heard from many people who've been to both that the Newseum is a lot more interesting. Great for kids and adults.

Union Market is a relatively new indoor market with really wonderful and unique food and shops.

If it's your first time in DC, you absolutely must take a long walk to:
1) take a stroll down the National Mall, stopping by at whatever museum(s) tickle your fancy (Air & Space and Natural History are my faves!),
2) Walk around the Tidal Basin to the Lincoln Memorial
3) Take a look at some of the other monuments and memorials. (The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is beautiful in its simplicity, and the FDR memorial is also wonderful and beautifully constructed.)

Do you have any interest in any type of cuisine? DC is known for its Ethiopian dining scene, as well as new ramen and Japanese shops popping up all over. Let us know if there's anything more particular you're looking for!

I love DC. On your day "off" I would recommend Old Ebbitt Grill - not sure if DC natives would agree, it might be a touristy spot, but I've loved every meal I've had there and the four bars are really cool.

@keepcalmcarrie: I always send first timers to Old Ebbitt. It's pretty touristy, but it's also very old-DC and easy to celeb spot - if you're brushed up on your political celebrities

RE @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: 's suggestion of the Awakening, there's a lot to do around it with little ones now too. They have a carousel and a giant ferris wheel (think the london eye) where you can see all of the city. http://nationalharbor.com/

@Weagle: Yeah, our family and friends who live in DC sent us there, and we loved it so much we always go back! Especially because it's fun to spot politicians
