@jh524: while I am not a trump 'supporter' I will vote for him in November. As a republican (and yes very much a minority here on HB) I am glad Cruz is gone...in my own personal opinion if rather see Trump in office than Cruz! (That's not to say I wouldn't prefer some one else more - but down to those two I prefer Trump - and thjnk he is the only one who can beat HRC)

As much as I don't like Trump, I'm glad Cruz is out.

In my perfect world Kasich would get it... he's still in but I don't get why?

I'm relieved. Cruz was scarier to me than Trump.

@yoursilverlining: absolutely what you said. For me, even though I don't think Donald Trump is remotely qualified to be president and his sexism, racism, etc, is embarrassing.....Ted Cruz was a far scarier presidential candidate to me.

Meh, I don't think it's really going to be that bad or that good regardless of who the president is. This is why we have a three branch system.

I think people need to be more concerned about their local and state elections, that's where the rubber meets the road.

@looch: Personally, for me, the next member of SCOTUS is a big deal, so that's why this election is so important to me. Plus, first woman president = history!!

@Adira: Yep, the SCOTUS nominee will have huge implications. And this president will likely nominate more than just the one to replace Scalia.

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@lawbee11: Yes! There's no way I'd trust Trump to nominate TWO SCOTUS nominees! Can you imagine????

  11. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@lawbee11: @Adira: well, I'm still hopeful that Obama will get a pick, since he is lawfully entitled to it. But yes, this issue is really important to me, too.

  12. looch

    wonderful pear / 26210 posts

@Adira: I don't even think he'd know who to nominate for SCOTUS. He would probably rather eliminate that branch of the government.

I wonder who he will nominate as his VP.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@winniebee: Same - I'm hoping Obama's pick eventually goes through (though it's not looking good) and then ideally (to me), Hillary will get a pick.

@looch: He might have a friend who's a judge somewhere - he'd probably pick him! And I'm also very curious who he'll pick as VP.

@looch: stop it!! I think he'll pick someone who has experience....maybe military experience since he has zero?

There really are no words to convey how disappointed I am in the American people for choosing Trump as their Republican nominee...

I really thought Trump would pick Christie as his VP, but I haven't heard much from Christie lately.

As a conservative, I really hope these next four years can pass quickly.

@avivoca: I mean, I'm hoping it just guarantees the Democrat nominee will win, but still...

I think it's good news for democrats. I'm in the camp of Cruz being maybe scarier than Trump. But Trump is such a divisive figure he's the best chance HRC has of winning. I think she's kinda like the democrat Mitt Romney, established politician who's already lost a presidential primary and not really joining the base. There's no way Sanders can win and yet he still won Indiana last night, which isn't a great sign at this point in the primary, for her to be still losing to an unelectable candidate. So I think Trump is her best and one of her only chances at becoming president.

@Adira: Me too, but the way the election has been going, I really feel like he's going to end up winning. There are just a lot of angry people out there.

@Adira: The scariest part is, I actually don't know about that

  31. Adira

    @snowjewelz: Yeah, I don't know it either.

  32. Smurfette

@Adira: The scary thing is that I don't think that does mean the democrat will win.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

    @Smurfette: Yeah, I don't either. I'm just hoping that's what it means!

But there are a lot of angry people out there... so who knows what will happen.

@Adira: re Bernie splitting the dem vote & guaranteeing Trump's win: I personally know there are many Democrats who do not support Hillary & equally many Republicans who don't support Trump. While Bernie may not be a stand-out winner, I do see how he could be a uniting choice for voters willing to stray from a strictly partisan vote, and would be the first election year any of these people I know would have voted this way. It's certainly not a typical election year.

  35. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@avivoca: Technically there still could be a contested election, I think. I saw something weeks ago with Rachel Maddow where she said the delegates can totally go rogue and nominate pretty much anyone they want. I was really hoping an independent would run that would split the republican vote so the dem would win the election (like Romney). But that's probably too much to hope for.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@GoGoSnoGirl: I don't know. Many Republicans that don't get behind Trump are conservative, and they would never vote for Bernie! And considering that Hillary already has more votes than Bernie, I can't imagine he'd get enough, even with anti-Trump Republicans, to beat either of them. He'd get the majority of Independents, but he'd most likely split the Democrat vote and ensure Trump a victory.

  37. Maysprout

    grapefruit / 4800 posts

@Adira: he's not going to be the nominee and I don't think run as an independent but Sanders has consistently polled better against Trump than Clinton.

I think it's time to call in Kevin Spacey for the Republican nomination.

I am really curious to know what's going to happen at the RNC. Are the delegates all getting together now to decide who they're supporting?

  39. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Maysprout: I know he's polled better against Trump than Clinton, but that's on the assumption that it's just HIM running, not the both of them. If they both run (which is the suggestion), then him and Clinton will split the Democrat votes.

But he's already said he wouldn't run as an Independent. If Clinton is the nominee, he will back her.

I think that the Republicans who do not support Trump don't support him because he's not truly a Republican and historically not a conservative. So I don't think that such non-supporters could move their vote to Bernie because Bernie is even more the polar opposite of a conservative or a Republican. In general, all the Republicans who aren't happy with Trump, I'll be so curious to see what they will do. Simply not voting is the equivalent of a half a vote for the democratic candidate. Be that Hilary of Bernie, both options are so drastically different from Republican values. Will be interesting, no doubt!!
