I'm not sure how to feel here....like I'm super happy he's no longer a potential candidate but I'm in total disbelief that that leaves us with trump.

Someone help me out here, as a Canadian I only have a partial understanding of how the primaries work.
SO, Cruz had XX number of primary votes. What happens to the votes he had now? Are they now gone, or do those voters now put their support behind the remaining candidates?

Lmao, did Trump just say America is going to start winning "bigly" ?!
I still can't believe this is real life.

Betting odds right now give Hillary a 72 percent chance of winning the presidency. As my husband said, with Trump as the other option, I'm not sure that's good enough...

Hillary better win! Can America survive four years of Trump?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@Charm54: I said exactly that to DH. He thinks he said "big league". Slightly better I guess.
@Madison43: exactly. I really dislike Cruz and didn't want him. Yet, that leaves Trump. How is this real life? And Kasich is probably sitting there like, thinking WTF????

@Mrs. D: It's sort of complicated. A lot of it depends on the state's rules. Here's an article discussing Marco Rubio's delegates when he dropped out a couple of months ago. I think it really only matters if this goes to a contested convention which it almost certainly won't.

@Mrs. Pickle: me neither! I'm like, oh thank god at least Cruz won't be the next president... Oh but wait. There's still Trump.

Please let him run as a third party, splitting republican votes and making sure they both lose...

My reaction? Yes! Wait....no....nooooooo......crap.
How has it come to this?!?!

Expected, but depressing that Trump is this far ahead this early. I can only hope that somehow Bernie Sanders hangs on & if necessary goes independent, because he's the one who could beat Trump, not necessarily Hillary.

@jh524: I'm still wondering what the hell is going on. No one will admit to voting for him yet....he can't stop winning.
Poor Carly. First she falls off a stage. Now this. Shortest VP run ever.

Seriously? Did Donald trump pay off someone to rig this election? Insanity!

Good! The prospect of a Cruz presidency was infinitely more terrifying than a Trump presidency. Trump's time is likely to be capped at "utter embarrassment" as he wont get much support from his own party. That said, come on now, are we really about to possibly elect Donald Trump for president?
Cruz seems like an awfully sore loser. The RNC was all geared up to get him in there and then he just drops out.

Canadian here feeling scared for our friends south of the border if that imbecile actually becomes president.

As a Canadian I have say I think your US political system is majorly effed up. How can someone like Trump ever be a serious contender? I definitely could never live in the states. You guys live in a scary reality!

@yoursilverlining: My thoughts exactly! I think Trump would
probably do damage to our reputation....which would likely be in tatters already for electing him, but I really can't see anything calamitous happening (maybe wishful thinking!). But the thought of a possible Cruz presidency makes my shudder....

@jh524: In the military and airlines! I work at both places and everyday it's having to put up with incessant boasting about being Trump supporters. (Just not a fan of any political talk at the workplace period.) Just the other day a squadron mate mentioned how Trump had attacked John McCain for not being a hero cause he was captured. You'd think that's pretty damn offensive for fellow service members to hear, right? They just defended him like "oh it must've been taken out of context."

@jh524: Most of HB are Democrats, so it makes sense there would be very few or no Trump supporters here.
@GoGoSnoGirl: Bernie going Independent and splitting the Democrat votes between him and Hillary will guarantee a Trump presidency. Not a good idea. And Bernie wouldn't do that to us anyway.

@MsMini: I feel like it's not the political system in this case, which is designed to stop those like Trump (through delegate rules, the electoral college etc), so much as the people voting for Trump. Like, there are a lot of resentful, ignorant people out there. I never thought this many!

@jh524: @Adira: there are a couple on HB, last I checked!
But if you want to be really depressed, check out the responses to this Old Navy ad: http://www.today.com/style/old-navy-ad-interracial-family-prompts-social-media-outrage-support-t90226
Those seem like Trump supporters to me...

@yoursilverlining: Yes, this exactly!
A Trump presidency is just downright ludicrous but I didn't find the prospect nearly as terrifying as a Cruz presidency. I am holding onto a faint hope that a lot of Trump's talk is just rhetoric and he will temper things down a bit now, but with Cruz, you got what you saw and it was TERRIFYING. Still can't believe this is our reality though.... I am strongly holding on to the belief though that the American people are smarter than this and Hillary/Bernie will win by a landslide, and take the majority of Congress with them!

I never liked Cruz anyway... I don't love Hilary either, but I think we will be fine with her for 4 years than with Trump for 4 years!
