Were you discharged together? Or did baby remain in the NICU? Did baby just need a quick evaluation at the nicu or a couple hour stay?
the NICU team will be there at delivery, i'll be having a c section at 35+6. I've been told that little girls often do better then boys. I'm hoping for minimal nicu time. I spent 22 days in the nicu with my son who was 34+3!

My little boy (34+6) was in the NICU for a week, but I was told that if he had hung in there one more day the NICU would have only been necessary if there was something wrong. He was perfectly healthy, although nursing was hard for us because his mouth was too small. We also had to supplement with formula the first few days until my milk came in and I was able to pump enough to keep up with his needs. He is a perfectly healthy, strong almost 2 year old! We never had a single "preemie" issue once we came home.

@Mrs. Lion: fabulous! I worry about the tiny mouth! Also being too jaundice and getting sleepy! Thankfully, despite having big boobies my nipples really aren't super crazy big! LOL! but I had to hold my boob away from DS to keep him from his nose getting blocked.

I just had my baby girl at 36+3, no nicu time, we went home after two days.
I had our son at 35+4, a few hours of precautionary nicu time but all was fine, we were discharged together after two days.

I had a 34+4 little boy, he did 12 days. Mostly because he was having apnea spells and our hospital was very strict about releasing him. Now he's an enormous 6 month old who is doing great!

@LAZB: how big were your babes? My 34+3 son was gigantic! he was 6lbs 11oz 20" !
It will be curious to see how his sister measures up at 35+6!

36+1 here.
The peds team (not to mention the OB) were not there for delivery because they didn't make it in time. My second stage was about five minutes.
He did well at birth, was 6#2. He needed to go into the warmer for a few minutes after a bit, but then they have him back to me.
We did have a lot of trouble with him getting his blood sugar up. But I had a huge supply of colostrum (I could hand pump 3tbl in a few minutes!) so they didn't do an IV. He got a few bottles of formula. It was tough with having to take his blood sugar every hour. No one for any sleep.
Nursing was OK. Easier in some ways than my first, but he was so sleepy that he couldn't stay awake for feedings and I almost lost my supply. LCs said 36w boys are just awful at staying awake, but can trick you into thinking they are getting enough when they aren't. So we did the nurse and pump routine for a week and my milk came back.
He has been a bit behind on his milestones, but no more than expected. He is in PT but that is because of torticollis. Other than that, he is doing great!

Eta: no nicu time! He was discharged after two days, and that was just because I was group b positive and because of his blood sugar. Otherwise they were going to let him go home at 1.

@BabyPenguinXO: I delivered my first LO at 36+0 at 5lbs 4oz. The NICU team was present at the delivery, but she looked great so they gave her right to me and she didn't need any NICU care. Stayed in our room with us. I think we stayed in the hospital one extra night (maybe two?) for her to go under the bili lights. We had frequent weight checks after going home, but that's all.
ETA: Nursing was a little challenging because she was extra-sleepy from being late pre-term. They got me pumping after each feed for my supply and we supplemented with breastmilk and eventually with a few bottles of formula to help with her elevated bilirubin. We had a little trouble with latch because of her tiny little mouth. We got past these things though.

@BabyPenguinXO: my son was 6 lbs 10 oz and my daughter was 6 lbs 11 oz, so almost the same.
We are having issues with jaundice and sleepiness, waiting to hear back from the pediatrician.

@LAZB: I hope things go well! I learned about this feeding system that involves a tube and a syringe, and you essentially put the little tube up by your nipple and into babies mouth, but this way they are still encouraged to nurse, and either the stimuation pulls the milk out of the syringe or you have to push it, I'm not sure which. But if you dont want to introduce bottles yet in fear of baby rejecting the boob, this advice was given to me by some nicu nurses!

@BabyPenguinXO: Best wishes to you!!! I can't imagine how uncomfortable you must be. Will the condition correct itself once baby is born?
And, we used a tube for supplementation, because I still wanting stimulation to produce more milk. You'll hardly notice it. I can ask my LC for links to a good setup if you don't have resources already.

@littlejoy: I have an underlying liver condition... but ICP doesn't cause any long term damage to the liver. At most, it increases your chances of gallstones. BUT i dont have a gallbladder, it didnt develop properly, WHICH IS WHY I HAVE LIVER PROBLEMS! lol.
I would love links from your LC. I know the hospital has LC's.. but I haven't found any great resouces outside of the hospital... They are all pretty expensive. Was it the medela SNS system you used!?

@BabyPenguinXO: I literally used medical tubing and a syrringe. It was super cheap (free from my LC). The tubing had a little adapter type thing on the end that the syrringe fit into. When I was done, I could fill the syrringe with water to rinse the tube. I used each tube for about a week, but you might want to use a new one each time for a late pre-term baby.
I don't have a gallbladder either (hooray for no more gallstones). I'll be in touch as soon as I hear back from my LC.

@BabyPenguinXO: I had a 35 weeker. My little guy E had to stay 13 days in the NICU because he struggled to breath in the beginning and then had a tough time taking feeds. He was on an IV in the beginning and then moved to an NG tube. Once he could do all his feeds by bottle or breast they took out his NG tube. He was a pretty sleepy nurser in the beginning. He was 6lbs 4 ounces at birth.

Lo was born at 35+5. Our hospital doesn't have a NICU, but he was taken to a special care nursery to help him with his breathing. He was on oxygen for a few days and then gradually weaned off it.
He nursed like a champ right away. We were there for one week due to jaundice and weight loss.
In some ways, I wish I had been at a hospital with a NICU because while our nurses were great, they were overflow nurses from the maternity department and not specially trained for high needs babies.
