@TemperanceBrennan: I saw this and loved it, but I really want someone to write the mother of sons version!

I'm excited to skip the period talk altogether!

I think its weird how people say that at least you don't have to worry about boys getting pregnant.. but you still have to worry about them getting someone else pregnant!

Ugh, my MIL tries to tell me all the time that I need to 'give' DH some sons (since I 've mentioned that I would love to have all daughters).
I tell her that his daughters can help with yard/housework, play sports, work on cars, etc just the same as any boy can! Then she says it's not the same... WHAT?! Ugh.

Parent of boys only gets to worry about one, two or a few penises, while parent of daughters has to worry about all of the penises. (During puberty of course)

Parent of boys may miss out on giving their son away at a wedding- walk down the aisle and q&a with officiant.

Parent of boys will miss out on their child becoming an adult- period. Girls enter womanhood. Is there a male equivalent?

Can't think of anything else.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Ahh, but the important part was that she didn't do it with a penis.

@Grace: we were stunned at the projectile-ness of it. Especially the poop. One week old and it shot five feet across the room and required a trip to walmart in the middle of the night for carpet cleaner.

My husband refers to it as "the time our kid had super-soaker projectile pee/poop"

If I end up having only boys, I think the main thing I will miss is having shared experiences (like childbirth and breastfeeding and being mothers), BUT there's no guarantee we'd have those shared experiences even if I have a girl!

@sorrycharlie: I actually don't worry much about M getting pregnant (I feel like I can teach her how to have a responsible sex life once she's ready). But I worry a lot about date rape/sexual assault.

It seems a bit silly to make assumptions based on gender regardless. Every person/relationship is different. I guess on some level there are going to be some common experiences (i.e. most girls will want to go prom dress shopping and plan a wedding and become a mom. Most guys will go through asking out their first girlfriend and propose to a girl and be a good sports buddy). But having a girl or boy doesn't necessarily mean they'll be/do any of those things. And I think the lines are becoming more blurred anyways. People sort of assume my husband should be disappointed our first is a girl but he's excited! He still plans to teach her all about football and is excited to take her to her first sporting events. If I ever have a boy I'll still have him help me bake cookies. Either of them may decide to wear a dress to prom. Or maybe neither of them would. I just hope we have good relationships with our kids into adulthood regardless of gender.

I do like this article and agree with it. When you have a boy though, there are more things that you "can't do" with them...

- get manicures/pedicures together
-go shopping together
- girl talk

Those are all things I did with my mother and still do, that my brothers obviously never would have done. I don't feel I'm missing out by any means, but I think there are more things you "can't" do with a boy. If he wants to go shopping - then yay, let's do it! But most boys simply don't, and that's ok.

@Greentea: sure they can, but most of them won't, that's the thing. And I obviously won't make my boy do those things with me when there are plenty of other things he would rather be doing!

@Greentea: I don't even see it as so much cultural pressure as personal likes/dislikes. The fact is that more girls enjoy shopping than guys, more guys tend to enjoy hunting/fishing than girls, etc. I honestly could care less what makes my kid happy - as long as he is happy. It doesn't mean that X is exclusively a girl activity or Y is exclusively a boy activity. It just means that more than likely a boys/girls will enjoy different things.
