I think I read this is more common in pre-term babies? My LO was only 2 weeks early, but has a very minor one..just looks like a rounded outie belly button I guess. Not nearly what I've seen some other kids have.
Did/does your LO have one? How long did it take to resolve?

C was a 41 weeker and had one. I honestly couldn't tell except that she had an outie for awhile. Not helpful, but I'm not sure when it resolved. It's totally gone now at 2 and hasn't been noticeable for...6 months maybe??

DS was 10 days late and had one. He had a definite outie, and now at 15 mo, it is much less noticeable. Still an outie, but you can feel that the hole has mostly closed up.

My LO was full term (born 40+2) and has one. At almost 3 years old, it is still there but much smaller than when she was born.

L got one and I think it went away when he was about 3/4 months old!?

dD had one that was really only noticeable when she cried. Was fully resolved by 12 months

N has one but it is really small. He was born at 37 weeks. It is still hanging out at almost 2.5.

DS had an enormous one, was born at 34 weeks. I think there is a picture of it on a thread here somewhere. He is 26 Months now and it has gotten smaller but I think he will always have a big outtie!

My 41 weeker has one. It's definitely gotten less noticeable at 13 months, but is still there. My pedi wasn't concerned and just said to have her do more crunches.

Hmm, never heard that about preterm babies... DD was born at 37+4 and has one. It's not huge but it still hasn't resolved at 15 months. Her ped isn't concerned but if it's still there when she's 2, we will look into whether surgery is necessary. I don't want her to have problems with it later in life (I've heard it can cause issues during pregnancy if it's not fixed) and if we need to do anything, I'd like to get it over ASAP before she'll remember having the surgery.

DS1 was born at 39+1 and he had one. It totally disappeared and he has a complete innie now. I would say it was gone by 4 months.
DS2 was born at 37+5, and he also had one. His actually got bigger as he got older. It was huge and looked like a bubble. His is mostly gone, just a little bit of an outie. But I'm wondering how it will change when he's not as chubby.

I used to work with pediatric general surgeons, who did the umbilical hernia repair surgery. Most of them will close on their own, but if its still there by 3-4 years old(depends on the surgeon)they will usually recommend surgery to close it.

A friend's baby has one. It doesn't hurt him but it definitely hasn't gotten smaller as he has gotten older (he's 4 months). They'll do surgery at some point if it doesn't resolve itself.
