My LO was born with one. Our family practice doctor said we won't take any actual until she is 4 or 5 because 80% or more go away naturally by then. Obviously I would like to avoid surgery, but I also want to make sure we watch it. She is 18 months now and she has grown into it but its still there.
If your LO had a hernia did it go away naturally and by what age? If you had surgery when and how did it go?

I voted for the LO I nannied - hers went away but I honestly can't remember exactly when, by a year I want to say but I think sooner?

My LO didn't have one, but my little brother had one. It went away around 2 or 3. I don't remember his exact age, but somewhere in between then, no surgery required.

Ds had a slight one that showed up right before he hit 2 mo and has pretty much gone away by 4.5 mo. My nephew had a decent sized one and I think it was gone by the time he turned one

@T.H.O.U.: LO ended up with an innie. At birth, it stuck out, but was still an innie if that makes sense. But when it shrunk down it stayed innie instead of poking out.
Like mrs polish said, it looked like an outie, but wasnt, and you could see the outline of it under his belly. When he breathed it stuck out more.

My nephew had a severe umbilical hernia at birth. It stuck out a good half inch. You could see it under all of his onesies. It didnt bother him much. They were told the same thing about giving it time and it did eventually go down around 14 months. He still has an outie, and their doc said he probably always will.

My nephew had a pretty severe one at birth too, and it took a while for it to go away. I'd say it started becoming less noticeable by two and by 4 you couldn't tell at all.
He has kind of a half innie/half outtie now.

I love HB. L has one that just showed up, I am keeping an eye on it and hopefully it goes away within a month or so!

I was born with an umbilical hernia and it never went away 
I'm 26. It has never been an issue (except when I wanted to wear a bikini lol) but I'm no longer insecure about it. It might pose a threat during pregnancy though and for that reason I wish my parents would have had it surgically removed when I was a baby.

Our DS had a small one that went away by 3 months and he does not have an outie even though the doc said he might.

@Mrs. Polish: yes. She is 2 years and its still there. I think it's better but she obviously has also gotten bigger and grown into it.

@Mrs. Polish: it's looking much better! I will have to find a picture of DD now at almost 3 and post.
Here is what I came up with. She's sitting in these pictures so it's hard to really see. It does still stick out and show through some clothes.

My little brother has (had) one and they also said it would probably go away-- it never did. I remember he has his surgery at some point before kindergarten, but I don't remember exactly when.

This is a super old thread, but our 6m old is having surgery on hers tomorrow. The doctor said hers wouldn’t go away.
