LO had a lip and tongue tip and the lip was quite severe (we didn't get a grade). I struggled through for weeks before making the decision to get it checked out and then cut and I honestly wish I had of made that appt sooner. We spent unnecessary weeks struggling because my midwife scared me.

We used the laser and it was so quick. They took LO back and we left the building (they asked us to, they didn't want us to hear her cry) and less than 10 minutes later we got a call to come back. LO was calm as could be when we returned. I breastfeed her immediately and the difference was incredible. I was like 'so this is what it feels like to BF without pain'. We have had a perfect breast feeding relationship ever since.

I wholly recommend doing it. It doesn't hurt them, they are more freaked out by being held down, and the benefits are worth it imo.

Has your LO been checked for a posterior tongue tie? They usually come together.

My LO had a tongue tie and lip tie. Not sure of the grade. He couldn't latch correctly and would slide off every time he tried. We had the tongue tie clipped first, but later went to a pediatric ENT for a lip tie evaluation, and had it clipped the same day. It completely turned our nursing relationship around.

My LO had a lip tie, not sure the grade. We took her to an ENT at 3 weeks and he snipped it right there in the office. We could BF immediately and in 3 days it looked completely normal. It did help her latch and the horrible nipple pain I was experiencing but we are still having some issues like spitting up but thinking that's another issue.

DS had a grade 3 lip tie, and a posterior tongue tie - I waited a lot longer than I probably should have and suffered through painful nursing for 10 months before having the tongue and lip revised. He did SO MUCH better after the procedure, he started gaining weight and nursing stopped hurting.
The ped we went to did both procedures one after the other, in office with scissors and we stayed with DS the whole time. He went to breast immediately following the revision and hardly cried. He was eating solids and playing happily within an hour of the procedure. There are wound management techniques/exercises for after that help prevent reattachment and to aid in healing, they're super easy and never seemed to bother DS.
I highly recommend getting it done - it really can help.

@ElbieKay: I'm a first time mom and a dental assistant. I knew right at the hospital my little one had a level 3 lip tie and a posterior tongue. Her pedo kept telling me that she was fine and didn't need any procedure done. After struggling for 4 months I found help threw the la leche league and a lactation consultant confirmed what I had noticed at the hospital. I found a Dentist that had the laser and brought my DD in. She had both done the same day. It took 15 min. Once they were done I fed her and there was an immediate difference. No pain, no nipple blanching. She began to gain weight like crazy. I wish I had known better and went with my gut so we wouldn't of had to struggle for so long. The laser is less invasive for the babies. It heals cleaner and faster and acts like an analgesic. Her upper lip was a little swollen. We gave her the infant Tylenol and she was herself in no time. It doesn't end there. For two weeks you have to stretch the lip and the tongue. If not it's possible that the frenum can re-attach. Thats the worst part, but it doesn't hurt to stretch it, they just don't like your hand way in their mouths. The area lasered also turns white for a couple of weeks, but will go back to pink as if it never even happened. My DD is know 5 months and exclusively BF and I never regretted getting it done. Most women don't bat an eyelash when it comes to piecing a babies ears because its cute. Ear piercing would hurt more than this procedure does.
