I recently went to the dentist for a cleaning, which I get twice a year. The dentist looked at my teeth after the hygienist cleaned them, and said I would need a filling. Then she said, "This cavity is caused by you not flossing enough. If you don't start flossing everyday, you're going to have to keep coming back here for fillings. But we don't mind having you around. We're happy to have your business!" She said those last two sentences with a smirk on her face, and then exchanged a laugh with the hygienist.

I understand that it's important to floss, and I know I don't do it enough. I don't mind being told to floss, but I thought her comments were rude. She was basically scolding me like a child instead of treating me like a paying customer. I talked to my husband about it, and he thinks the comment was funny and she was making a joke. How would you have taken the comment?
