I wonder if they have like a "what to expect when home class"
DH is a worry wart and I think this would be good.for us both

A hospital tour. That's it. We had a doula who went through any lingering questions we had about birth beforehand. We were more concerned about the fact that we had no clue where to go when I was in labor than we were about what to do with the baby once she was born.

We did a hospital tour and our birth class begins soon. We wanted to do the infant/cpr class but we can't make it work with our schedules.

We did a child birth class. We had signed up for a breastfeeding class, but lo was born early. The class was taking place while we were at the hospital/lo was in the nicu, but we were so distracted that we forgot about it. Whoops. I may actually sign up for one this time around since it was so hard for us the first time.

@Weagle: That's a good point! We'll have a hospital tour too but I never even thought about the fact that we might not know where to go lol!

Nothing except the hospital tour. Our hospital has fulltime LC's on staff to help with / teach breastfeeding that were free and available 24/7 and an array of laboring options and nurses who were trained in alternative pain management, on-staff labor massage, etc. Oddly enough though, most of the classes were held during the day, so working parents-to-be would have had a hard time making them. So, we just sort of winged it!

We had 1x 2hr breastfeeding class and 1x 2hr childbirth class. I didn't learn anything super helpful that I didn't already know from HB. I think it was good for DH though.

Infant CPR only. I was signed up for others, but missed them when I was in the hospital for bleeding + pre-term labor. I would recommend taking classes at the beginning of the 3rd trimester - I was trying to be cool and wait it out - jokes on me!

@illumina: Haha I'd be interested to know how my knowledge stacked up during the class, with all the time I spend on HB!

None. I had a close friend take them and she said they weren't worth it so we didn't take them and so far so good! We have a happy, healthy almost 9 month old who's breastfed and STTN

I plan to take child birth class, a breast feeding class and a hospital tour. They offer a class based on Happiest Baby on the Block but it was sold out. I am more worried about caring for the baby once we are home then I am about giving birth!

Breastfeeding and Life with Baby-- the latter was REALLY helpful for DH and I think it helped him to feel more helpful/involved in the first couple of months.
ETA: We did a child birth class too which was also good for DH. He loves and respects me but I think sometimes he just needs to hear things from "an expert" other than me to fully believe it. Also he got to practice giving counter pressure on my hips which helped when I was laboring at home.

@travellingbee: that class is what I'm talking about....Like a life at home baby class....my DH is a a worrier so I think a class like that would help him

@FaithFertility: Yes it was great. I knew a lot of it, but actually there was quite a bit that I hadn't thought of. They talked a bit about everything and quite a bit about safety and soothing. It really helped DH to know what to expect and then to have a solution. He was the master swaddler and diaper changer after that class. Which in the first few weeks was awesome for me and empowering for him.

Labor and delivery class. I'm really glad DH and I took it together!

@FaithFertility: Huh... Our hospital offers a baby care class, I wonder if it's to the same effects.

We took the Bradley Method classes, which included pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, and breastfeeding. We both already have infant CPR and first aid through our jobs, otherwise I would have taken them.

@snowjewelz: I am.looking we have a new hospital and thwir classes are not listed online.
..so I'm going to ask next time I am at OBGYN

@FaithFertility: I am hesitant to take too many class b/c A) they cost money and B) the childbirth class alone is 7.5 hours!

@snowjewelz: Honestly, I felt as though it would have been better if I had taught the class

Childbirth, breastfeeding, and something that was geared toward pain management techniques. I'm happy I took all of them, but I think the most useful for me was the pain management one. That one gave me a lot of positions to try while in labor, some breathing techniques, and a realistic picture of how long a contraction would last for. Since I wanted a med-free labor, this class gave me the best preparation for what I might expect.

Infant CPR is a must! Also took a childbirth class, waste of money.

@snowjewelz: It was super helpful! I had no clue that part of the hospital even existed. Though, everyone in our group was super serious about all of it and shot us lots of dirty looks while we were cracking inappropriate jokes and not hiding our giggles.

We took infant care and that was about all my sore pregnant parts could handle sitting in those chairs. It was useful for people like us who had never changed a diaper! There was also a helpful part about car seat safety.

We didn't take any and I never got around to scheduling a hospital tour. Luckily my hospital has very clear signs about where to go after hours if you are in labor.

Infant CPR, birth class, and breast feeding. Is it weird I think the Birth Class was the most useless?

almost all the ones that were offered: Labour & Delivery, Baby Care, Infant CPR, and Breastfeeding

We took a six hour childbirth class for #1. I think it helped me to be less nervous and to be more confident in myself. I think my husband was glad to have it so he could use his knowledge to calm me down and so he understood what was happening (since he doesn't read parenting blogs!).

We took infant care because it included infant CPR. The rest of the class was pretty basic/useless. We also took a breastfeeding class, which was also pretty useless. We mostly did it to meet other couples since we are the first among my friends to have children, and DHs friends all have older children.
I didn't take childbirth because my plan was always to get an epidural. I don't regret not taking it.

Before D I took a breastfeeding class but nothing else. I never took anything else for S or M. I just wing it.
