I would choose sea star, maybe at 50% though. I love blue/green and am always drawn to them.

I do think grey will eventually be dated. It's the go to neutral now just like beige used to be. Home design is like fashion though. Not much stands the test of time.

I like @Mrs. Pickle: 's suggestion for what I *think* the room looks like!

I know that gray is popular now and very popular on HB but I do think it's going to be on its way out soon. We're struggling with deciding on paint colors right now too.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: you're right! What are some other colors in your home? I like to repeat paint colors in a couple rooms.

Is there any part of the trim (maybe the windows themselves) that you might be able to paint a lighter color?

We moved into a house built in 1973. Half the rooms had original molding (walnut) half were painted.

Our dining area felt really dark. It had two massive sliding glass doors that were brown (all our windows were brown). We ended up having to replace them, and just getting white windows even though the molding is still walnut made a HUGE difference.

I would go with straight up white.

I'd go with white, or Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.

We painted a lot of the rooms in our house this color, and I love it. It's a light sea foam green that morphs into grey or light blue at certain times during the day. I had originally wanted to paint the entire house gray, but my husband didn't want to. Sea Salt was the color we agreed on. No regrets!

What color is the ceiling?

Have you seen the YHL room with basically white walls but a color on the ceiling? What about something like that?

@Mrs. Sketchbook: For me, the bigger issue is the flooring. The carpet is really dark and muddy and with the gold toe guard, it makes it look extra dated. I would maybe brighten up the floor with a big area rug or replace the carpet with something else. I do think the trim would look better with a white/light color (we love SW Grecian Ivory in our house, which is more like a light beige color) and I also agree a contrast color on the ceiling would be nice - something in the blue family would be calming and match the rest of your house in terms of palette. I think with the very green lush backyard, the green of the room is too much green.

I would go white honestly, or another really light color! I think it will brighten the room up a ton, and even make the carpet look lighter that way.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: We're facing the same thing with our windows! We planned to replace them all this year (and really...why did anyone ever think brown was a good color for window casings???), but then our washer leaked and we had to replace flooring, so it looks like windows are put off until next year.

One of the sliders had started pulling away from the wall, so we HAD to replace those. I was worried about getting white when we weren't replacing everything at the same time, but we don't really notice it inside, and outside, it's just the back of the house. And it looks SO much better on the inside!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Ive seen the paint chip for that color and I think it will dry darker and darken with a second coat.

I like the couch too @Mrs. Sketchbook: I was just trying to match the rug. Maybe keep the couch as-is and get a fun mustard color rug?? That would make a big pop.

Its hard with paint colors - you gotta keep swatching with samples. We had to swatch for 2 days with my painter and I thought I wanted gray tones but with the lighting in our house, it literally looked like cement prison cells. That's how we got to our Grecian Ivory - it was so soft and nice in the light. I think sunlight in that big sunny room is going to be the biggest factor and all your colors will look lighter. You might try something a deeper color that seems totally too dark and see how it feels.
