We are done with our Chicco Keyfit and I am not sure what to do with it. It served us well with our 3 kids but it has a December 2016 expiration date.
Did you just throw it away or recycle it? I think I that heard donation centers will not accept car seats?

With such a close expiration date, I would destroy it or donate it to a local CPST to use as a demo seat. I wouldn't try to sell it because people may use it past the expiration date and it will no longer be safe.

I gave it to a friend, but it still had a long way to go before it expired.
I have a convertible on my hands that will expire at the end of this year. I plan to cut the straps, remove the liner and bring the whole thing to the dump.

Ours expires in December as well. I'm planning on either throwing it out (cutting it so no one can try to use it) or saving it for a BRU trade in event. But we are also planning to use it until then since the baby turns one in December.

I see parents on local yard sale sites looking for old car seats for Babies R Us trade-ins. I would definitely cut the straps so it can't be used, just so there's no misunderstanding.

I'd hang on to it to use at the BRU trade-in event. Or cut the straps and give it away on a FB site when the event is going on if I didn't need to buy anything.

@autumnlove: I had heard that some local fire stations will take them for using in drills - ours did not but worth a shot to call your local station
Ours was expiring so I cut the straps, donated the cover and recycled the seat
