I'm due with our second this fall, and struggling to think of what we will need to buy to prepare for the new little one. We don't know yet if we're having a boy or a girl. But our first will have just turned or be about to turn 2, so we still have what seems like all the baby stuff. What did you find to be helpful and essential for your second? What was nice to have? What did you think you needed, but didn't end up using? Thanks all!

LO2 is only 11 weeks so I'm sure there are things we need that we haven't gotten yet but so far, here are the new things that we got that have been most helpful:
- New monitor with two cameras
- Second white noise machine
- New bottles and pacifiers
- New baby carrier (I didn't like my old one)
- Baby bjorn bouncer (LO1 didn't like our old one so we got rid of it)
- Milkies milk saver and a manual pump to help build up a small freezer stash
- Snuza hero monitor (I was very anxious with my first and this has helped me relax more)We also got a double stroller but haven't even used it yet. I think that will be useful though.
The only other major things I bought for this baby were a Halo bassinet and a Snuggle Me (similar to Dock a Tot). He has reflux though and needs to sleep on an incline so he hasn't really used them much. I sort of regret spending so much on those.

@catlady: Thanks! I definitely want to get another baby carrier. I love the ones we have, but we do a lot of baby wearing. What did you end up going with? Great idea on the Milkies and a manual pump! Definitely adding those to my list. Yeah, I'm debating a double stroller, but I think we will probably get one.

@catlady: The milk saver is AMAZING!! I had low supply, but would still leak up to 1 ounce out of one boob when LO was latched on the other. The milk saver helped me catch at least 6 ounces a day!!
We aren't getting much at all. I did buy a new wrap (Solly Baby). I might buy a pack of new bottle nipples, but our bottles are in fine shape. We were team green last time, so our newborn clothes are very unisex.
Most of our stuff before LO 2 comes along has to do with organization and making the space to have twice as much stuff out for use.

boppy cover to have an extra one

stroller because the old one was in bad shape -
~New monitor because our old one was discontinued, and we couldn't buy cameras anymore

~We used the same bottles as #1, but I did buy new nipples
~Breastfeeding related accessories like freezer bags, pump wipes, new membranes for the pump
~Solly Baby Wrap. I didn't like my K'tan with #1, so I got a new one.
~Pacifiers
~New bibs. A lot of the ones left from #1 were in pretty bad shape between wash wear and stains
~Double stroller if you don't have one that is convertible already -

You NEED a baby carrier with #2. I used my Maya wrap during the newborn phase and my Ergo once he was bigger.I used a stroller compatible with an infant car seat. I used a Chicco snap and go. I loved that thing especially for daycar drop offs and pickups.

@littlejoy: Most of our preparation will be organizing and finding space as well. Our house is only 1000 sq ft, and my stepson is at our house on weekends, so space is tight. It's going to be interesting! We're definitely going to limit how much more stuff we bring into the house.

Following. Here's what's on my list for baby #2:
-second camera for video monitor
-second white noise machine
-double stroller
-some kind of wrap (maybe)
-more cloth diapers (not necessary until baby 2 is 2 months old)

We needed:
-New bibs (we're still using the old ones too but this kid DROOLS like it's his job and my first didn't)
-Some clothes (different season)
-milk bags
-pump bra (not really a big deal with the first but super helpful this time)
-new cloth diaper covers
-new diaper bag (I hated mine)
-sound machineWe didn't need much. We did make sure to get the two year old out of everything we'd need for the baby in time. So, not using the high chair anymore, sleeping in a bed, potty trained, not using bibs, not using the 360 cup anymore, etc. Not having to buy two of things helped a lot.

@LindsayLou: I got a Solly and a Lillebaby. Love them both! Both a step up from the ones I had last time (k'tan and Ergo).
Just thought of one more thing, we got a little bath seat for LO2 so that he and LO1 can take baths at the same time.

we didn't get too much gear, but they were different genders so didn't share too many clothes or bedding things (same crib but new sheets etc). in terms of gear we bought a sit and stand stroller which I still use, and I ended up buying a baby bjorn bouncer seat after he was born. my old FP lamb seat was too wide to easily go in and out of our bathroom and I needed something to hold baby when I gave the older one baths! once we had that we pretty much put the lamb seat away, it's great.

@Alba4: my first wanted to be held all the time, so we did a lot of baby wearing. We have a moby, a ring sling, and a Tula.
@Mrs. Pickle: We also need/want more cloth diapers. And I think we're probably getting a second crib as well. I just can't see us being ready to deal with a non confined toddler with a newborn. I'm hoping she doesn't try to climb out of her crib!
@catlady: How do you like the solly? We have a Tula, which I love for older babies. But the solly looks awesome for little ones.

@LindsayLou: I really like the Solly. It is very lightweight and convenient for bringing places because it folds up small. We've also found that it's easier to eat with LO2 in the Solly than in any other carrier (a useful thing in the early days!).

We had 2 boys in 20 months, so DS2 got very little new stuff. We bought him a new camera for the monitor, a carseat mirror, a few new sleepers and bibs, pacis, and personalized PBK towels. DS1 has a few personalized PBK towels, so I got it for fairness.
We did get newborn photos and 100 day photos for DS2 like we did for DS1 - again fairness.
Oh and we got some new stuffed animals for him, since kids get attached to things like that.
I ended up getting all new bottles for DS2 because the old ones started leaking (ugh). I got all new pump parts and new nursing bras and camis.

We got a new changing pad, new pump, pump parts, nursing tanks, and a few sleepers. Thats about it. I'd like to get a carrier to see if I can wear #2, but I haven't found anything the baby likes.

* Boppy lounger. This is nice b/c it's so portable that I can just plop DD2 anywhere as I need
* Some baby wearing stuff I didn't get with DD1 (I got a Boba wrap, infant insert for Ergo, and a winter cover)
* A booster for DD1 when DD2 takes over highchair
* Her own set of diapering stuff since DD1 still in diapers
* New swaddles (trying new ones that I didn't have last time)
* Extra pumping bra (so I can actually wash them now lol)
* 2nd camera -
We got the add-on seat for our stroller. And I got a jolly jumper rocking base for our stroller bassinet to use as a room bassinet--but LO2 didn't like it, so I sold it.
We also got wipes, diapers, a few things that needed replacing like a new baby towel. Not much, really!

I think the only thing we bought was an Ergo although I was given a second hand stretchy wrap. As my second got older we bought new supply cups etc but nothing too major.

@LindsayLou: I loved the Solly Wrap. #2 was born in the summer, and the fabric was a lot lighter than some of the other wraps. We used it for the first 3 months or so. It's kind of pricey for such limited use. I got it 20 or 25% off by following their IG page.

Other than things already mentioned, the only thing we got was a new set of A&A blankets because LO1 still sleeps with hers every night and uses them for play (she is 3.5 years). Good thing we did, because LO2 has been obsessed with his since he got one into his mouth and they have become his loveys.

A couple of "seconds" as we moved from an apartment to a multilevel house, like another swing and bassinet with stand. Never used the second swing though.
I ordered some extra blankets when he turned out to be a huge puker in the early days.
A buggy board attachment for my stroller
A second noise machine.
Some newborn clothes, because I lent newborn clothes to a friend and her husband accidentally threw them out.
A baby snowsuit, the bunting kind with no legs. never used it, or maybe only once or twice but was totally unnecessary

I got the britax b-agile double. I do like it but am a bit annoyed because a major reason I chose that one was to use with our britax carseat and there was a recall soon after I bought the stroller so now we're not really supposed to use the carseat attachment. So we've only used it a little. It also feels so big compared to my single! But it handles pretty nicely and isn't too heavy. I plan to start using it more once LO2 can really sit up on his own, and I think I will like having it.

but another vote for the Solly wrap--my big baby outgrew it and we graduated to the Ergo 360 after only about 10 weeks, but it was fantastic and I used it almost every day before that, both in and out of the house. maybe someone can gift it to you!

DS2 is expected any day, but he will be staying in our room for the first several months. We are getting DS1's big boy room ready for him now, so we've bought a lot there, but for the new baby we haven't really gone overboard. I don't think!
We bought the following already:
- Halo bassinest (MIL provided heirloom wooden bassinet for DS1); it was safe and low to the ground but we all hated it. It was great for storing laundry though.
- Rocking/vibrating thing (mommy brain!); we needed another baby holder with a toddler running around.
- Honest company disposables and wipes; we cloth diaper (now into cloth trainers) but it will be a couple of months before he fits into the one-size cloth.
- a few new outfits (even though the boys are only 25 months apart)
- an Ergo carrier and infant insert; we have a Beco Gemini, but wanted something I could use earlier and well, a second carrier I wouldn't have to adjust between me and DH!
- 3 new swaddle blankets (DS likes his still)
- 2 new SwaddleMesThings I will probably/definitely still get
- a stroller board; probably the Lascal Maxi with or without the saddle seat.
- a couple of more cloth diapers (not cause we need them, we are down to only using diapers at night... but the cute!)
- new crib sheets and change cover, if we change up the colour scheme in the nursery -

@LCTBQE: I'm definitely considering the solly wrap! We found out last week that we're having a second girl, so there are very few things that we actually need. But I can always justify a new carrier!
@Astro Bee: We cloth diaper as well, and although we have more than enough already, that won't stop me from adding a few new diapers to our stash. Buying a second carrier so my husband could have his own and not having to readjust all the time was one of my best decisions with our daughter. He wore her a lot more with one less step.
@gingerbebe: That's a good reminder about the robeez. Ours are pretty sad.

I didn't read through all the replies, but most of what I got is probably the same. My favorite 2nd baby purchase, though, was my Covered Goods multi-use nursing cover. It's a 360-degree cover, so even my squirmy little girl couldn't kick it off and expose me to all of Target. It made NIP so much more comfortable for me (I never did it with D because it made me too self-conscious and worried about him kicking off the cover).

We just found out #2 is a girl (again!) so that lessens the stuff we need to get.
But I want to get her her own muslin quilt. They are different seasons so I've been picking out some special clothes for the tiny one. It also means two girls I can splurge on stuff for DD knowing it will get used again. We're getting a piggyback board for our cruz. DH is adamant he doesn't want a double. We're hoping DD will be ready for a big bed by christmas so we'll have to deck out her new room (or get new stuff for the babie's room.)
other than diapers I we don't actually need anything else.
