My son's first birthday party is coming up soon and I am trying to decide what to wear. It is a casual party but I wanted to dress up a little since I am also kind of celebrating my first year as a mom! I got a cute and flattering dress in my Stitch Fix box this week that I could pair with heels or booties but I don't know if it's too much, I know these parties can get messy!

I vote wear the cute dress. You'll look and feel great. Who cares if it gets a little messy. The pics will be awesome and you'll have a great time. Always go for what makes you feel good. It's your celebration too! This coming for the woman had a special dress for her daughter's 1st birthday. We had a theme, "harvest hoedown" and I wore a flattering dress I loved, with cowboy boots, of course.

I wore a plum velvet blazer, a plum and ivory print tank and a pair of trouser jeans. I had shoes on, but I don't recall what, probably flats.

A white shirt with polka dots and capri pants. It was a HOT day in June. I ended up with red frosting all over me so....it really didn't matter in the end.

I wore this vintage dress I got on Etsy. It's a party; wear whatever makes you happy! FWIW, our party didn't get messy - or at least not messy enough that I ever worried about getting dirty.

I wore jeans because there was a lot of set-up, and I wanted to be comfortable (it wasn't at home). I just wore skinny jeans, a light pink shirt, hot pink sweater, and gold flats. Her color scheme was shades of pink, red, and gold.
I like the idea of wearing a dress though! I don't think you'll get too messy. It's a celebration of you too -- you did the hard work! Wear what makes you feel good.

I wore a nice blouse and jeans. I didn't want to dress up too much because Xander wasn't too dressed up (t-shirt and knit pants).

DS1's 1st birthday party theme was Mickey Mouse so I wore shorts with a Mickey t shirt I found at old navy. For his 2nd bday, I wore shorts and t shirt again. I wanted to be comfy. It was at my home and it was hot plus I knew I would be running around.

I wanted to wear a dress but someone said I should wear shorts and I'm so glad I did, I was bending over/sitting on the floor a bunch, and I didn't have to worry about keeping my legs closed. You could always do a dressy top/pants if you wanted.

Ha! I wore whatever was still fitting me at 37 weeks pregnant. (Yes, I was 37 weeks pregnant at DS's first birthday party...) I can't quite remember.
I think a dress would be totally appropriate and lovely!

Thank you for the input, I'm really looking forward to this party- I invited quite a few more people than the rented space allows so I'm hoping to get away with it if they don't count small children. We'll be within walking distance of home so my son and I can both change easily if needed!

DD's birthday is in December. I wore a grey sweater dress with a pink belt and black tights.

LO's party was night-time/constellation themed so I wore a cream dress with gold, black and silver stripes. My partner wore a grey button up and LO wore black pants and a grey shirt. I'm not a heels person so I wore black flats with my dress. I surprisingly did not get dirty during the party, but I was glad to wear flats since I was running around a lot.

I am pregnant with #2 so I wore my dark wash skinny maternity jeans, brown boots with boot cuffs, and an orange maternity blouse. Perfect for fall and I was comfortable but still looked nice in pictures. Of course I dressed my LO in a sparkly pink tulle birthday dress but that's another story.

I wore skinny jeans, a tank top and a short sleeved cardigan. It was just a get together at our house so it was casual.

I'm boring here, but skinny jeans and a light weight black sweater? We had the party at my moms which is a no shoes house (our party was mostly family) so I threw in some stylin' fuzzy socks!
My baby was the center of attention with a tutu though, so one of us was decked out!

I wore a deep blue long-sleeved shirt and denim capris. Then I wore my huge pregnancy coat because it's the only coat big enough to wear over the baby/carrier.
