what do people stop you about the most?

  1. MenagerieMama

Usually comments about how happy she is. She loves adventures and is a huge flirt. Then about her eyes/cheeks. She also gets called a Gerber baby several times per week. We joked that we would contribute $5 to her 529 with each gerber comment and that would fund her college tuition! She's even had someone sing "you are so beautiful" in the freezer isle of the grocery store to her...

My son's big eyes and long lashes always got him mistaken for a girl when he was an infant. Even when he was wearing clearly blue boyish clothes.

Now he gets comments on his longish curly hair that I keep refusing to cut because I know once we do, those baby curls are gone forever!

When she was younger it was always the hair. (Look at that hair! She has so much hair!). Now it's pretty much "she's adorable" type comments.

Hair and eyes. Lots of "He is so cute!"

@MenagerieMama: we always get Ralph Lauren model. It's weird how many people have said that. I guess he looks all-American

Both my kids eyes. They are super super blue. And dd's hair!

Hair for my son. He's got great, all over curls that people always comment on.

DD: Her long hair and expressive eyes.
    DS: His size. Constantly.

@oliviaoblivia: This exactly! We are stopped almost every single time we go out by people telling us how DD1 is one of the most gorgeous little girls they have ever seen. She is classically beautiful and does look like a little doll, but it makes me uncomfortable as well as the comments are usually directed just at DD1, despite DD2 being right there as well.

DD2 gets a lot of comments on how friendly and outgoing she is, and how advanced she is once people find out she's not even two yet. She definitely has the more engaging personality of my two (not that DD1 isn't lovely, but she's a bit more reserved than DD1).

@JerricaBenton: that made me laugh. I had ridiculously curly hair that came around puberty (yay hormones ) and people asked me all the time if my mom curled my hair every morning. Uh, no.

I usually get stopped because my child is a major flirt and he is super cute. It's hard to not stop when a chubby toddler beams at you and says hi! Over and over until you respond too, haha.

    The 3 most common are

1.People alway comment on how comfy she looks when either of us wear her in the Tula
    2. How big she is, 20# at 8 months and pretty long
    3. How beautiful she is and what her "background" is. SO is Vietnamese and I am Italian and she is a good mix of both of us

@Tanjowen: lol I had curly hair as a kid too I think because lo has these soft loose curls people think I do it! I hope her curls stay as she grows up. Her curls are definitely nicer than mine!

Always his big bright eyes and how smiley he is.

I don't get stopped about this, but I get a lot of comments from strangers like:
    "Oh, she's so serious!"
"She's just taking everything in, isn't she?"

She is 18 months old and rarely warms up to strangers, and when she does I am always amazed. She is very serious and watchful and just sort of takes in the room...

OH, and when she was younger (6 months-1 year) I would get lots of comments about her rosy cheeks.

So tiny! How old is he/she?

N: how polite and handsome he is.
E: how handsome he is and how comfy he looks in his Tula or wrap.

Everyone comments on and wants to touch their red hair.

"OMG, she's so tall! How old is she?!" and "Wow, what a beautiful little girl"

So be fair... she IS pretty much the most gorgeous child ever... and crazy tall.

  19. anonysquire

    cantaloupe / 6923 posts

1st: her lack of shyness. She's usually doing something crazy or singing or asking a stranger to hold her.

    2nd: his staring problem.

But now people mostly stop and ask if my kids are twins, and then tell me how crazy it must be to have kids close in age.

"You must have your hands full" Why yes, yes I do.

"Oh that red hair, he must be trouble" Yes indeed, he is trouble.

LO1: either his eyes, or the things he says. He's almost 5 and has a LOUD voice that carries (everyone on the u-bahn can hear him) and says such interesting things.
    LO2: her eyes.

It's crazy because strangers never stop to talk to each other here. An occasional senior citizen will talk to DD at the store, but its highly uncommon for strangers to talk to each other. If anything, they will make comments like, "it's so wonderful when they're always singing" (DD skips and sings whenever we're out and about).

But when we're in the States, people will stop and comment on how cute she is

Eta: Come to think of it, we only really get comments whenever we're traveling. An old man in Greece stopped to talk to us at a crosswalk to say how beautiful LO was and that we should have another!

  23. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

Usually how cute, smiley and friendly they both are. Once they hear how old LO1 is we get a lot of "wow, he is crazy tall" or "he is a BIG boy". Haha, granted he is 2.5 and looks at least a year older (he's 3' 3.5" (1m) and nearly 40 lbs (18kg)).

His medical devices. I was shopping with a friend a few weeks ago and she was appalled at how much I was stopped and by how completely nosy and rude people were. It bothered me in the beginning, but nowadays, I answer their questions but am not afraid to shut it down when they start asking personal questions. It is appalling though, how many people feel so entitled to his medical history.

@Applesandbananas: Sorry to hear - I don't know what happened to tact these days.

His big blue eyes and how alert DS is, from birth he has always had his eyes wide open just taking things in. We also get comments about how cute he is which makes me smile.

@SugarplumsMom: Off topic, but we laugh about this about Sweden all the time. I wonder how anyone meets a SO when no one talks to strangers. Our friends say people only talk to others when they are drunk, LOL. That's how they meet.

Hair! It's red and everon wants to know how he got it since neither of us have red hair

  29. My Only Sunshine

DD has had glasses since her first birthday. They provoke a lot of comments.
Most of them are sweet - Oh she looks so cute!
Some are curious - How did you know she needed glasses?
Some are WEIRD - Are those real? Can she hear?

  30. SugarplumsMom

    bananas / 9227 posts

@travellingbee: Lol. It's so true! A Russian friend once told me that in Moscow, a stranger would only talk to you if they're either drunk or crazy. It's the same here in Sweden!

Most often these days people stop to tell me lo lost a shoe--it's her favorite game when she's in the stroller to say "uh oh shoe!" and pull it off, so usually she's only wearing 1 shoe and I've confiscated the other one

In the elevator in our building, lo likes to say hi to everyone and point out their shoes, hats, etc, so we get a lot of comments on how verbal she is as well

  32. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@Pumuckl: I don't either. I would never go up to someone and ask why they use whatever they do, a cane or a wheelchair or whatever or ask if something their mom did when they were pregnant caused it or if there's a surgery that can fix it or if they'll ever be able to not use it, etc. but people ask that kind of crap about his devices all the time.

DS1 - his hair. He had a full on pompadour from 3m - 2 years old.
DS2 - his size and his smile. Seriously, he smiles at everyone.
