No I would not expect that to be shared

I think this is probably the main reason a lot of daycares don't do cameras

That's normal and I'm sure it happens pretty much constantly. My daycare teachers tell me if she did something extra cute or hilarious or smart or learned something new. They only report concerns if she got hurt or there's a problem like a major diaper rash or if she was having major crying meltdowns.

No I wouldn't expect mundane baby events to be reported. We got diapers, food, bottles and naps written out and then of course injuries and other funny stories or notable events if I talked to the teacher. being sick the first year in daycare is par for the course. If it's not pacifiers they're sharing, they're all mouthing the same toys or drooling on each other anyways.

Honestly, I get that they have cameras there but I would be very frustrated by parents watching me than calling to report what was going on in my room. I don't really feel like that's what the cameras are for.

This is very normal in our daycare...so I would not expect them to share.

I would expect them to share if 1) DD was being too aggressive with younger kids or 2) If DD regularly took one childs and that child then got sicks - so I would know she had been definitely exposed.

Unfortunately it happens all the time especially at that age. And, I feel unless your kid seriously injures another kid then I wouldn't mention that he poked someone today or bonked someone over the head,etc. Yesterday my home daycare kid slapped my daughter a couple of times in the grocery cart when we went out to grab some quick stuff. It wasn't something I mentioned to his parents, they just can't sit in close proximity like that to each other. At home they're usually pretty good. They're both 1. It's definitely a perk that you have the cameras there, but in my mind they're there for two reasons: you to see your kid and help with separation sadness/anxiety and also to the keep the daycare accountable. I don't feel they're there for keeping tabs on everything! But I understand it would be frustrating to see stuff happening and know that if you hadn't observed it on camera you just wouldn't know about it.

I worked in a couple daycares in college and this all seems pretty common. We wouldn't tell parents every single thing their kid did or didn't do. Some parents would have gotten extremely upset to hear every single day that their kid knocked someone down, took a toy away, etc. The things we shared were bigger or reoccurring issues (and I was in the 2-3 year old room). I think what you're mentioning is very normal for infant classrooms.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I wouldn't expect that to be reported, it's probably to be expected in a group of little babies. I laughed when you said he isn't always the sweet baby you see at home. That might change because I now know my son can be quite a mini dictator but his teachers think he is an absolute joy!

I just don't think you get that kind of fine grain detail from a child care provider. Kids at that age have no concept of empathy. They only know that they want something, so they take it. They don't know how to be nice or to be gentle. It takes a LOT of coaching for kids to learn that.

Do you send pacifiers with him? If you don't, you might want to send some, or something else he can chew on, so he doesn't take otehr kids.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think I'd be happier not knowing if my baby bonked someone on the head because I'd feel bad. Especially if the other kid was just sad for a second and my kid didn't do it all the time otherwise for sure I would want to know that they were being too rough too often and see if we could come up with a game plan to fix it.

@LBee: for our daycare both sets of parents signed the injury/accident report for either the kid who is injured and the one who did it-whichever is their kid. I think it's more to protect the daycare and have a record of the situation in case the injury causes more serious outcomes and/or if legal proceedings are put into play.

Take this with a grain of salt, because my son wasn't in daycare as a baby, but I can tell you that the camera would have been the death of me. We had to get rid of our video monitor because I was becoming a basket case at bedtime.

I would seriously consider not watching it.

Wow, their own boppies? That's kind of nuts. Boppies don't go in your mouth like pacis do. But I'd certainly be pissed if they didn't clean the pacifier before returning it to my child.

I have watched my kid, in person, pull a paci out of another baby's mouth and stick in her own. I have also watched another kid pull her paci out of her mouth and stick it in his own. That's daycare. And that's normal infant behavior. Babies don't know gentle vs rough. A (9m) is constantly man-handling D (who is 3). He complains but we remind him that she doesn't understand, and as her big brother he can help us teach her how to be gentle. But baby-on-baby violence (ha!) is completely par for the course. The teachers barely bat an eye at that kind of thing. Ours will intervene if there's obvious pushing/shoving/hitting, but taking a paci? No harm, no foul. I'd take a break from the camera.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: just wanted to add that I totally get being worried about your kid being an aggressor but he doesn't have the capacity to have the kind of intent that you are reading into his actions. He's absolutely the sweet baby, like all babies, he just saw something he wanted! Don't overthink it

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: as a former daycare I probably would have forgotten to tell a parent about that unless it had just happened and I probably would have already rinsed it myself (though I guess that doesn't fully sterilize). Although my mission in the infant room was to try to get babies off their pacifiers stat. And that was what most of the workers did too. Though I have had worked at other daycare where they just popped it in the babies mouths often.

As a parent, if my kid went to daycare and if she used a pacifier then I would assume it was dirty and have a back up for pick up and at home or clean it when I got home.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: no I wouldn't expect to be told if another kid had my baby's pacifier in their mouth. I'd assume they rinsed it off when they noticed, but honestly if they just gave it back to my baby then whatever. I washed pacifiers nightly when we did daycare anyways because I expected they'd be dropped and taken by others at some point.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'd be sanitizing that pacifier within an inch of its life, lol. Then I'd probably put it in the garbage, buy 5 more and a paci clip.

The thing is that kids are going to get sick as long as they're in the putting things in their mouths phase. So, you kind of have to ride it out until they're 2 or so. And trust me, they'll still get sick in kindergarten, no matter how many colds they had while in daycare.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: to answer you second question - no, I wouldn't want daycare to tell me if a lo stole my lo's pacifier. I mean, what's the purpose of sharing that info? There's nothing I can do about it. Babies drop paci on the ground and pop them right back in; would you expect that to be shared at pick up?

If I knew a parent in my kid's room was watching the cameras so often and then calling the room, taking a teacher away from the babies, for something like this, I'd be pretty irritated. I think you should talk to the director about setting up more detailed reports if that's the level of detail you need to feel comfortable; I don't think it's appropriate or fair to expect the teachers to be proactive about sharing every detail, or to answer calls to the room about things that are not emergencies.
