We have the $20 Ikea one as well and it works great for us. The chairs are still a little bit tall for DD so I think it'll last for awhile size-wise. And if not, it was only $20.

I spent forever looking for a kids table because I didn't want to have to replace it in a few years. I finally found this one by Richard Lampert http://www.richard-lampert.de/kinder_tisch.html

It's an adjustable height table, at it's fullest height, my tall DH can sit under it like a normal desk. I'm getting an ikea bench that matches it pretty well.

The $20 Ikea one though I wish we had sprung for the solid wood one.

My parents bought one from a local woodworker at a potato festival...giving it to L for Christmas.

@Adira: oh yes. It is in our kitchen area so everyone sees it when they come in. It looks nice and it is extremely sturdy. Both of us feel comfortable sitting in the chairs and don't worry that they'll break on us.

@yellowbird: I know! so sad!! DH and I have only been once and it was like a full day event!
