After a day without heat we just got news we need to replace our furnace ASAP, ugh! It had been a while since an unexpected expense has snuck up on us so it was due. Looking on the bright side, our furnace will now be efficient

My husband's new job apparently requires what so far has racked up to be $800 in uniform costs this month. The last twist was that his shoes couldn't have any stitching on the toes, so the expensive dress shoes we had purchased around Christmas for him are now being stored and had to purchase another $200 pair. I know it's worth it in the long run, but geez...

@mrsjazz: I broke my toe a few days before Christmas. I didn't bother to go in 
But even funnier, I didn't even bother to buddy tape it to my other toe, which a friend pointed out to me a few days later. I was like "meh, it's a toe". Though you never realize how much you use your toes until one is broken!
I hope yours is feeling better. Mine is, but it's still bugging me once in awhile when I'm on my feet all day.

@Mrs. Jacks: It was my first broken bone so I went to the doctor just in case. Mine is much better, I can wear my regular shoes again but the snowy streets aren't helping my healing process.

Our last unexpected expense was car repairs for my husband's car because the check engine light of death went on. Bah. Our last unexpected expense before that was car repairs for my husband's car because he got a flat tire then when he was waiting on the side of the road for roadside assistance he got sideswiped by a hit and run. Sigh.

Umm we've been billed a $2,000 doctors fee for my ER visit in October....I havent called to contest/try to pay less yet but I'm sure we will still owe a lot.

@mrsjazz: this was like my third broken toe. I did it idiotically in the middle of the night on a bookcase as I ran to tend a crying girl. I knew exactly what I did when it happened and worst of all I had to suppress the cry of pain so as not to wake the other girl! It would have been funny if it didn't hurt so damn bad!

The state messed up our income tax from '12. They set us up on a payment plan because they know they messed up and they will have to pay us back plus interest, so they didn't want us to pay a lump sum go figure. They're swamped and haven't reviewed it yet. It's a lovely amount...

We spent about $2,500 to fix DH's car a few months ago. We came thisclose to just buying new car because his car is already 13 years old, but we didn't want to have another car payment.

Had to replace garage door opener and the bottom panel of the garage door. Then just got a bill for DD's PT and wasn't expecting it to be so much.

It's not unexpected but bills after bills coming in from my labor/delivery was nuts! I expected the ballpark figure but it was still shocking to receive so many separate bills and having to pay them all when I have no paycheck!
