DH ran his front bumper into our garage rail this morning while in a rush to get to work. (I wonder if he's pregnant...LOL) UGH. looks like $1-2K worth of damages.

We had to spend $800 to replace my a/c system in my car after the compressor locked up and shot bits of metal into my system last week. Fun times. Thank god my BFF's dad owns a shop and gave us a big discount on it. We saved like $250.

our tractor isn't running. Apparently you cannot leave biodiseal in an engine for more than 90 days otherwise it separates we're at a bill of at least 1k.

We had a recent car repair that cost around $500. We were just relieved it wasn't worse than it was!

I signed up for a conference that I ended up not being able to go to and it was non-refundable, it was almost $400!

We ran over something in the middle of the lake with our boat last month and it jammed the rudder up. That was a nice 1k fix. Oof.

I got a $200 bill for each kid from the doctors office. I thought vaccinations were covered under insurance!

The battery in my car died and I had to have it replaced at the tune of $170. Thank goodness I have roadside assistance or I would have had to pay the tow bill as well.

I'm waiting for the bill from LO's last surgery, I've seen the explanation of benefits...yikes.

Within 1 week we had to replace a window and get some plumbing work done in our rental property. Was around $400 total.

We got rearended in a parking lot, but the opposing side made up a crazy story so her insurance company is claiming WE are at fault. So our insurance agents are in a stand-off with one another. I don't think the damages to either car warrant going to arbitration, so right now we may be looking at just handling our own damages. So we'd be out the $250 deductible on our car insurance and whatever increase that puts to our coverage.

I got charged for a $115 deposit on top of my electricity bill with the company I've been with since 2011.

We bought a lawn mower last weekend. We knew our old one was going, but we were hoping to make it through the summer!

Not so much unexpected as more than expected.... LO's ear tubes are going to cost us 1800$.. I expected it to be much more around the range of @lawbee11: 's 750, so that was some sticker shock.

DH took his car for an inspection and found out he needed a whole new exhaust system. That was $750 we hadn't expected to spend.

Not so much a bill as a unexpected financial setback... DH got in a serious accident at work and had a partial amputation of his thumb. While the ambulance/ER/orthopedic surgeon and such are covered by worker's comp, they are only required to pay 66% of his paycheck while he is recovering. Doctor says it will be at least three more weeks (it happened a month ago) before he can do his regular job.

do birth bills count as unexpected? Not that I wasn't expecting some bills. But they just keep coming because they are all compartmentalized by department and doctor. So far we've gotten 6 bills all related to the birth. I really wish that they would just send us ONE bill with everything so we'd actually know how much we were paying and be done with it. So far it looks like it's costing us around 5-6K out of pocket.

ugh well there is a nice dent in our pretty new car that someone left for us in the parking lot on Sunday with no note, so we probably have to get that fixed... plus a huge rock hit our windshield so that needs to be fixed too. frustrating!!

@lawbee11: Well partially it's that our 700$ deductible hasn't been satisfied, and partially because our insurance only covers 70%, leaving 30% of the 6000$ bill for us to cover. It's not great coverage, and apparently he is the Cadillac of ENT Drs in this town, so more expensive.

Hot water heater!! Totally worth that $ even if it was 100k. Cold showers don't work for me! Took us a week to get one due to work schedules and I was sick of stopping off at my sisters to shower

@psw27: I hate when people do that! Someone put a huge dent in our bumper a couple weeks ago at Costco, I was so mad!
I got a bill for $100 for the routine blood test my OB ran at my first appointment. All my maternity care is supposed to be covered 100%, so I'm hoping I don't actually have to pay it, but I'm sure it will be a fight with my insurance company.

Does the non disclosed knob and tube rewiring bill count?
$15,000 and counting. Kill me.

The engine light on my car came on, something needed to be replaced and it cost us $1k. Then the day I drove DH's car to work since mine was in the shop his engine light came on. That is going to cost us another $300-$500.

The Apple store has made a mint off of us on repairs this month. I guess that's what happens when you have "vintage" stuff, we just didn't know 5 year old equipment was already vintage!
Our TV is also breaking, so that bill will be around the corner soon.

We decided to strip and wallpaper our lounge, then we noticed the cracks in the walls! We have a plasterer in for the next 2 days, unsure of the bill yet as he works an hourly rate

Our neighbor asked us if we wanted to split the cost of a new fence between part of our properties (about 18 feet). The fence was a 3 foot high chain link that was falling over, and we said sure, we'll help out with the cost. WELL, we get home a few weeks later and the neighbor is installing 6 foot decorative Trex fencing...and our portion of the bill came to $1200!
Fortunately, our neighbor was very cool and said just to contribute what we were comfortable with since he was the one who decided on the fancy fencing. We thought $600 was fair, though we were expecting more like $300 for another chain link fence.
And it looks awfully nice...

DH got a traffic ticket that we ended up fighting because it had a pretty big penalty, and we also felt he had been wrongfully written the ticket. $950 in lawyer fees later the ticket was completely dropped, which is great, but having to fork over that much money to the lawyer was not fun.

D had to get the radiator in his car replaced about a month ago...he had actually picked it up the day we took E to the hospital, which will be another big bill (expected now?). We're probably going to have to pay it out of pocket...I'm still waiting for it, lol.

@Arden: I'm so sorry that's awful, I hope he heals quickly
They messed up when they submitted some bills from the RE and didn't have us pay the correct copay, so I just had to pay the $120 difference. Not too bad, but I didn't expect it.

I got a speeding ticket last week, wah. The cop clocked me going 72 in 65, and I got pulled over while cars were speeding past me. I'm so annoyed. It's $120.
