I was a single parent for the last 5 years BUT did move back with my mom (rented from her) while I went to school.

If something happened to DH right now, I'd probably move back till I could get on my feet (his income is primary right now) BUT then I'm sure I'd get a place for us and just stay close to my mum.... b/c she's pretty much my best friend and keeps me straight when I get stressed. lol

Moreso than something happening to DH, I worry about something happening to me b/c DH is my son's step-dad and the law here says that DS would go back to his biological dad.... something that I SOOOOOO wouldn't want... =/

I don't know how I would do it. I would probably move closer to my in-laws, or get my mom to move closer to me.

I have no idea. I would probably sell the house and move to a condo or townhouse near work. We'll have life insurance, so that will help for a while but it would be a huge struggle. I don't know how I would be as a parent without my rock next to me.

I often think about this. I would definitely have to sell the house but not necessarily move back in with my parents. They would for sure want me to, though. I don't know how I would do it, though.

Good question, that I never thought about! I know the door would be wide open for me at my parent's place; however even if I love my parents to death, living with them is not something I could do for longer than 2 days... I'm independant and my mom tends to be controlling although she doesn't mean it that way... I would suffocate very fast. I think I'd sell the house (couldn't move on if I had to live in this house full of memories) and buy a smaller one and get all the support I can from my family to raise our children.

This is such a hard thing to think about, if my DH were to pass & we had children, then I would probably sell our house and move closer to my parents/ in-laws. I'm sure for a few months I would live with my parents but would want to get out on my own again.

I've had recurring nightmares about this when I was pregnant. And according to the dreams, I would get into a big fight with my in-laws because they would want to take the girls to Hong Kong, and we would become estranged as a result. I wouldn't be able to afford our mortgage so I'd sell the condo at a huge loss and move back in with my parents. I'd go back to work making 3/4 what I made before, while my mother sells her store to watch the girls so that I could work.

...and as nightmarish as this scenario sounds, this is probably what would happen.

I would definitely want to live closer to my parents, and probably want to stay with them for a while, but I wouldn't move in permanently. When my parents divorced, my mom, brother & I moved in with my grandparents for a year or so, but she eventually bought her own house about 10 minutes away. We lived there until my mom remarried.

Just want to say that this is why life insurance is so important! Whether or not your husband is the breadwinner, if losing his income would affect your ability to pay your mortgage and things like that, you should get life insurance.
